Very nice Von!! :aok

At that hardness it will be hard for it to keep and edge,it will chip because of brittleness.

Somewhere in the 40's rockwell makes a great edge that wont chip but reqires attention to keep real sharp.

The ideal is a 40's edge with a backbone 55 to 60,thats what you'll find on a good Katana.

That said, you could make me 1 anytime, nothing like a fine handmade Knife!

       :salute

It is a knife, not a hatchet  :rofl

I am still thinking about drawing the temper out a little further...

The best part is that it will come with a lifetime warranty :)

I guess I should have made him a tomahawk, instead  :furious

One is lucky to have one's self allowed on an airplane these days.

I'm sure he realizes that, though.

Wow, that's awesome, what a great gift!  Being in the gun and security biz, I decided to collect something different, that being knives.  It started when a PMC Company I worked for gave everyone a 1000$ Strider Knife for Xmas, and I've been hooked ever since. I've got some real ww2 NCO Japanese swords and some other historic stuff, but nothing compares to a custom built knife IMO, which is what I spend most of my spare $ on.  America has some great ones that's for sure.  Great, exceptional work done on this one, not only is it a great gift, but for it to come from a friend and have pics of its construction gives it its real value IMO, which is priceless really.  Well done sir!

Anyhow, I hope Stampf's son appreciates it, I know I sure would, that will be something he can carry with him the rest of his days as a Marine and pass on to his own kids a bit of history.  I really can't say enough about how cool and thoughtful this is Von <S> .

Absolutely awesome gift Von...he'll love it.  I always carried an antique pair of brass knuckles when I deployed.  I'm sure a man of your talents should be able to craft a nice pair as a nice supplemental gift, say when he graduates from MOS school or something... :)
