My friend commissioned me to make him another lamp a bit ago after I had made him a matching set of Jack Daniels lamps. At first it was simple "Can you make me a Bud Light lamp?" he asks. Sure I say thinking of maybe a large 32oz bottle with a nice wooden base... Simple I think..
Then he sends me a drawing and asks if maybe I can make this... It was 6 bottles mounted on a base with a second layer on top and a 7th bottle on that. A little more difficult but figured I could still do it. But he wasn't done. His next thought was to be able to fill the lower bottles with liquid to make it look like they still had the beer in them.
OK I said and just to make it even more difficult I said Why don't I rig up a socket inside the lower ring of bottles to back light them along with the upper main socket!!!
LiL more difficult but in my head I cold see this thing and it didn't seem all that hard to do. LOL
So after my cousin emptied out most of a case of Bud and gave me the bottles I stop by and grab a plank of Oak on the way home.. Then I sit there with 6 bottles arranged in a circle on the board for several hours contemplating how exactly I was going to make it all work... It all seems so simple when it's in your head don't it?
Anyway after figuring out most of how it was going to fit together for the most part, I started working on Photoshop trying to come up with a base that had some curves but didn't look to feminine and on the second day I finally came up with something. Construction went along ok for the most part other than the first attempt at the upper layer turned into a rough draft for the final lol and at one point I just had to sit back in the shop on a stool staring at the thing for about 15 min trying to think up a good solution to keep enough slack in the cord so the top layer could come off in order to change the inner bulb after I thought I had that issue worked out twice before lol. In the end it all worked and fit together very nicely.
