Frame Rate
« on: May 18, 2011, 01:36:24 PM »
My frame rate has always been low averaging around 30 FPS or so, with it dipping as low as 17 FPS.  With the new patch the frame rate is down to a 20 FPS average with it going as low as 4 FPS and staying there for an extended period of time (usually above air basses or in the tower).  I know that the problem is not my computer because I have been playing this game for months and I know when and where the frame rate drops off.

Also I heard crickets?  Not sure what that was all about but I only heard them for about 10 seconds then they were gone.  Nobody else reported hearing them so I am assuming it has something to do with the patch.

Um, maybe turn graphics down or stay out of heavily populated areas. It's not a bug

The game is constantly upgrading in terms of graphics and also memory requirements, if you do not update your computer you will start seeing drops in FR like you are now. Not saying that it is your computer, but you can not say it can't be your computer just because it was performing better in the past.

Post the first third of a dxdiag report from your computer as well as the setting you are using in game. Someone may be able to help you tweak it to run better.

It points out that it may NOT be a bug as it seems to be working fine on his computer, which then leaves the OPs computer as the most likely source for the problem.

I have 1024 textures enabled because 2048 was too hard on the computer when I went bomber hunting.  I am using the default graphics driver for the game but plan on getting a new on soon (along with some more RAM).  A squadie suggested that my computer may be downloading something in the back ground but I could not find any evidence of a download in progress.

You may still be pushing your computer too hard. Run the dxdiag and post the first third of the report here. It you don't know how to run a dxdiag ask. With that info we may be able to help you

I am having an issue too, and I have a pretty recent PC...  Gonna do a defrag and some other maintenance to see if it helps...

I was just stating that I saw no difference in FR since last version and updates.

May want to disable some programs running in the background and reduce your vid settings. Also, disable detailed terrain & water in the game video settings, I remember doing that before I built this system I am using now and it helped a lot.

Another point to check would be video card driver update form the card manufacturer, a lot of times this is not an automatic option and requires you to do this manually.

Can also look at increasing bus speed on your processor, called over-clocking. (careful here, need to know what you are doing and I would suggest a temp monitor for the processor) Most of the time a processor can actually run at a higher than specified speed, depends on the processor batch at the time of manufacture. Processors are built in "batches" and the entire batch is specified at the speed of the lowest processor in the batch, therefore you can actually have a faster processor without realizing it, just got to know how to tweak it. I used to have a pentium 4 years ago that was rated at 2.8 and I was running it at 4.2 with the addition of a new heat sink / fan and a liquid cooler (home-built). I remember some friends of mine using liquid nitrogen to push a pent 4 to it's max (can't remember what that was), it was crazy. Got to realize at some point, it may be cheaper and easier to build a new system though.

(Happy now Nypsy?)

If you're struggling to see 30fps then you need to crank the textures down even further... 512 and maybe even 256.  How about a DXDIAG so we can see what kind of hardware you're working with here...
