It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

A friend of mine flew over it yesterday and took this photo. The ash punched itself all the way to the stratosphere this time.

This is a big caliber area in terms of....trouble by the way. Just hope it peters out soon.

encouraged to stay indoors? :huh I seem to recall ash is heavy and will make roofs cave in, if anything you need to stay in a car or bunker.

ya, stay in doors...as in, keep your exposure to it to a bare minimum, regardless of bunker, tank, missle silo or whatever...breathing it could lead to an ugly death

Right because when ash gets in the lungs it forms an almost concrete mixture, but having your roof cave in isn't any better? You need to put a cloth over your mouth and get under something with a sturdier roof.

I have a feeling that the government of a volcanic island has a little bit better idea of what to do in this situation than you do.
Just saying.
