Once its working its very nice, if it were a dedicated monitor i guess it would be plug in and go :)

I have spent enough on bits for my PC i think i will go into the garden and lie down for a bit :)

He said he changed to DVI but also said he updated drivers. I think THAT is the real culprit there.

I have a 6970 and have 3 monitors at once, Debrody. One of them is very old and maxes out at 1042x768 resolution, so when I tested it in games I had to limit it to that 768 vertical resolution and "dumb down" the others.

The physical sizes also made it difficult to game that way, because lines didn't match up left to right.

If you have 3 same sized monitors (i.e. 1280x1024) I think you'd have no problems with just 1 of these 6970s. You also have the option to crossfire, adding more power later. That's my intent some time from now, once games get that far ahead in requirements, I'll stick another card in there.

I had to get 2 passive mini-DP adapters, but I grabbed two Apple-brand adapters off of amazon and they work just fine. The third (middle, primary) monitor is DVI.

EDIT: Here's a video of 3-monitor eyefinity testing. All textures and details were maxed, FSAA was at least 4x, aniso was 4x or 8x or so. FPS running FRAPS live was still good.

c, i have a hd5830, 2*dvi and a hdmi output, but my monitors only have dvi and vga input connectors. Is there any existing hdmi->dvi or hdmi->vga converter?
//nm, found them, but they are all up to 15 bucks

A 5830's a low-end card there, I think. It's got less than half the power of a 5870 if I recall some comment I read a while back.

You might struggle to run games with eyefinity on that card.

If you want to do the 3 monitors, I say spend the $15 for the adapter. It's only $15, and a 1-time purchase. HDMI is essentially DVI if I recall comments from Skuzzy, so I would suggest going HDMI -> DVI when you choose an adapter. It would be the better image quality, I think.

well im not planning to play crisis warhead on this card  : )    now with the new 6k series coming, it was cheaper than the 5770 (!). 26K hufs, while the 5870s were all up to 55K hufs (equal to 320 bucks). Prices suck here  : (
Let me see if it can run AH in the triple monitor setup.

Recently after getting my XFX 6970 i tried both DVI and HDMI and as stated my many HDMI can cause problems.

When using HDMI blocks appeared on B17s when moving rear turret and blocks appeared in Hanger, the picture was very sharp.

When using DVI blocks disappeared and image became a lot smoother :)

I presume HDMI works on a dedicated non TV monitor.

As has been stated before DVI and HDMi are a complicated business :old:

I think it will, but I think you will have to lower your quality.

IIRC the 5830 performs *slightly* better than a 5770.  I do agree though that for ultra high resolutions and graphics intense games it may be a little low-end for eyefinity.  For the record I have a 5830 and it allows me to see 55-60 FPS virtually all of the time in AH at 1920X1200 resolution with all settings MAXED (including full AA) and the only thing I have turned off is shadows.  I can run 2048 shadow textures smoothly but choose to turn them off because I find them more annoying than anything.

As far as adapters, I bought a DVI to HDMI cable from monoprice awhile back and was using it to hook up a video card that output DVI to a monitor that only inputs HDMI.  It worked flawlessly.  Then I upgraded the video card (to the 5830) which has an HDMI output.  Now I use that same cable to hook up my blu-ray to a DVI connection at my TV.  Again, it works flawlessly.

CLICK HERE for Monoprice's selection of adapter cables.  They are only a few bucks.

Thanks Tigger, i appreciate it, but the shipping would be 10 times more than that cable...
Tryed this card in offline, 1920*1080, maxed out everything but the self shadow, i set that to 4096 + smooth shadow, steady 60fps, 75-90ish without v-sync. 150ish with self-shadowing disabled.
I guess it would be 45-50fps with 3 monitors. A little tuning on the processor pushes it up to 60.

Tigger: Thanks for the comparison. Always good to have a benchmark I can relate to (i.e. Aces High)  :D
