The instructions tell me that I needed a 3.5mm-out to 2RCA-in cable (which I have) but everything I've tried I just can't get this to work. Any ideas?

My PC motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R, and I have a GTX260 video card.

Okay, according to this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gtx_260_us.html
You have an input for your video card.

According to this (click for image):
http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/14-130-434-S06?$S640W$
it comes with a 2-wire cable. This is the audio cable. It goes from your audio card output or your onboard audio header out to the video card. Then from the video card along the HDMI cables.

You'll have to check your motherboard manual. I did a search online but couldn't find a detailed enough picture to pick out where the pins are. Put 1 end of the S/PDIF cable on these, and the other into the header pins on the GTX260. Then the audio will pass through your HDMI cable directly to the destination with no need for secondary cables.

You got me looking into the manuals for my own video card and motherboard. Sure enough, for HDMI output with audio there is a S/PDIF out connection on my motherboard and a similar "in" connection on my graphics card (ASUS Geforce 9600GT). According to the graphocs card manual this should give me HDMI with audio when using the supplied adapter. Unfortunately I am not going to haul my PC set up from my den to my 50" plasma TV to find out if it works! Although the thought of playing AH on the big screen is really tempting!

It will be interesting to find out what "instructions" xNOVAx is using. TV, Graphics card or somthing else!

Certainly I agree if you can get the Audio into your HDMI output, it should work with just the external HDMI cable connection - I'm just not that sure if the standards used are universal now. Has anyone actually done this?

FINALLY figured it out.. Just as suggested, I had to attach the S/PDIF cable from my motherboard to my video card, set S/PDIF as the default on my computer, and violla!! Sound now comes out of my TV.. Thanks guys!!  :aok  :rock :x

It has the output via the adapter to HDMI. It came with the audio cable as well and I think I installed it at the time. Will have to open up to check.
The review below also comfirms it should be OK for HDMI with audio. I have a Panasonic 32" LCD TV in my den so I will give it a go.

Bring up computer on your TV...go into control panel.. "manage audio devices and sound" (or whatever yours says) see what sound devices are listed (speakers) click on each one individually..click apply...OK...repete this procedure for each device on the list till you find the one that works...just went through this with mine.Don't forget to be sure volume on the TV isn't muted and that your TV is set to HDMI (or whatever) input that you're using so that it "agrees" with what the computer is sending. You should be able to do this using the "menu" button on your remote.
Hope this helps..good luck with it. ;)
