street cars.......

As its hot shoe, Ford brought 2010 Rolex 24hrs Daytona GT class winner Jonathan Bomarito, so we took the opportunity to gather some hard data on what the Boss could really do. Bomarito and the Boss knocked out two hot laps at 1:40.4 and 1:40.2.

How fast is that? Well, we compared those times against a few vehicles from our MRLS lap-time database and were astonished. With a professional racing driver behind the wheel, the 2009 BMW M3 that competed in our 2008 Best Handling competition clocked a 1:42.9. In our 2009 Best Driver's Car competition the 2010 Shelby GT500 lapped in 1:44.3 while a 2010 Audi R8 did it in 1:40.8. This puts the Boss 302 in a very elite field, and it's not the fastest Boss. According to Ford, Bomarito lapped the Boss Laguna Seca under 1 minute and 40 seconds.

  from here^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

with professional drivers in em all.

oh yea....the boss302 IS being tested. every single weekend. it's kicking chevys ass, and tieing bmw. only chevy wins so far this season, have been under a full course yellow, and when the competitive stang teams were knocked out of contention from collisions. and this is where the stang is running against its direct competition, rather than going against a car that's almost always been in its own class.

keep on trying, it's fun.  :aok

I think I good marker is going to the lap times on the Nurburgring Nordschleife track.

This track tests all of the capabilities of the car, top speed, braking, turning, acceleration, and endurance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times

I see plenty of corvettes, GM did a test run with a 2012 Zr1, clocking at 7:19.63:

General Motors conducted test, base specification car with optional super-slick track DOT competition tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure)[10] and non-stock safety equipment, video confirmed.

Same with a 2012 Z06 at 7:22.68:

Now where is the nearest ford??

Drag racing IMHO is only a small fraction of what makes a car great... how it handles on real roads is the true test and Ford does not put out well in that department.

Please do not tell the Cobra folks I hang with that.  I watch those $40K Cobras eat Z06's all day long, on a road course (most have Mustang suspensions, some have Jag, some have custom).

At the end of the day, it is the driver and the car.  If the driver sucks, so will the car.  If the car sucks, it cans till win, but only against a poor driver.

I know some damn good Cobra drivers, and I know some damn bad ones too.

For me, if I put as much into my car as it costs to purchase a Z06, I would have a Z06 eater as well.  I am not sure why it is important where the car was built.  Anyone can buy a Cobra, so it should count as well.

As far as the new Boss302 goes, it probably would not beat a Z06 on a track with a lot of long straights, but the Boss suspension is more than competent enough to give a Z06 a good run for the money, for a lot less than the cost of a Z06.  A Boss will eat a BMW M3, on a road course.  Thats good company.

$41,000 MSRP for Boss 302 vs $74,000 MSRP for the Z06...or even a C6 Coupe at $49,000

WOW!

Congrats on outrunning the other Mustang and two overpriced German sedans!

In all seriousness I applaud Ford Motorsport for going about the racing business and their support of road racing in this class. If Chevy showed any interest in that class racing the Camaros might be a little better competition. I still say if they want more respect they need to be showing their faces in the big leagues, though, and that means Sebring and Le Mans, and not a lower-tier feeder series.

the ford teams aren't factory backed.......at least i don't think they are. the chevy teams(the 2 that are competitive) are running 2 car teams. roush is running a single car team, as is multirmatic.

it looks like mitchum motorsports may have chevy backing.......

 read this......

that is why a chevy won last week.

and the boss302 isn't just beating other mustangs.....it's beating bmw's, and chevys.

~40k for a brand new C6 .. and such.

Of course, very nicely done used are available on

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvettes-for-sale-98/

..from mild to wild.

CAP ..-grin- .. I useda be a dyed-in-the-wool street racer long before I discovered Air Warrior even.
There's always someone better/faster etc.

With today's toys .. a 2khp street machine with A/C and a decent stereo that can drive from LA to Phx or cruise Van Nuys or just blow some poor saps doors off ...well .. that is *nice* :)
The fact that it is wrapped in a '69 camaro shell is icing on an awesome cake .. if I win the lotto I will have something similar built,
..prolly based on a C-5 tho as I dont need no steenkeeng back seat :)

i'd keep the vette.

not that i don't like the old cars.....but i've been getting a LOT of them at the shop lately. friggin FERGET it!! the good ones from back then can't hold a candle to todays average cars.

i also do not believe that dude drives that car as a daily driver. if you talk to him long enough, you'll find out there's things he's given up, or certain things he won't do with it......not like your corvette built up, or even my mild 450hp mustang........my stang was drivin in any weather, any day/every day(cept when i had the bike out). it took me to and from work, to the r/c field, whilst full of planes, to and from florida, maryland, conniticutt, etc. and it took me down the 1/4 mile every single weekend in the low 12's. it was a true daily driver.
i would imagine when/if you build your vette, it will be much the same. well.....except you don't fly r/c, and if you did, you ain't fitting much in there. but that's ok. it'll still be your true daily driver. not something that you only drive when it's between 70F and 80F, the wind coming from the east, and it hasn't rained in at least a week, like most so called street cars are.

if i can find a way to afford a 2011 or 2012 stang, it'll be pretty easy to build that into the high 10's without giving up anything at all. and being as i'm almost old....that's what i want.  :devil

just a lil something for the doubters out there.

http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=9137

1994

    * Ford introduces the Zetec R V8 Formula One engine. Michael Schumacher drives a Benetton-Ford to F1 World Championship, Ford?s first since 1982. Schumacher?s eight wins push Ford?s all-time F1 victory total to 174, higher than any other engine manufacturer in the history of F1 racing.
    * Ford wins its 11th NASCAR Manufacturers? Championship.
and people try to say us americans don't race real races......... :devil

read this link, and see if anything seems somewhat familiar.
