low frame rates
« on: July 27, 2011, 05:02:49 PM »
Hey guys, I have a I7 processor, 12 gigs of ram and a ATI 5870 card.

I don't have the game maxed and I'm getting low 30s and mid 20s frame rates.

i don't have alot of stuff runnign in the background.

Are there some settings in the CCC that I may have set wrong??

A DXDIAG output would be helpful.

Its been so long since I've posted a Dxdiag, I really have NO idea how to do it.

I use windows 7 home, I'm sure that I would need detailed info on how to perform this assuredly gargantuan task.

From what I've seen posted on here, there are usually pages and pages of info.

NO idea how to copy all that info and post it here.

Any help is surely appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Well, I thought I had it figured out.

I had copied the dxdiag report and pasted it in the reply.

I received a "red" message announcing that I had exceeded the 10,000 character limit.

Now what??

brand new computer?

Kinda new, Going on about a year old now.

Just had a total reinstall done due to the dam ATI CCC system not working correctly and unable to reinstall it correctly.

It would seem that you need the CCC to use scaling to use the full screen on my new monitor.

Without it neither I or Dell couldn't figure out how to get rid of the one inch band of black all around the edge of the monitor.

So there solution was to reinstall the system to original factory settings.

Even then Dell couldn't figure out how to find the scaling settings in the CCC.

I found it and adjusted it to full screen myself once the CCC was reinstalled.

Just split the dxdiag output text file into 2 or 3 posts so it won't be too long.

LOL! That would make too much sense!!

I actually tried to paste onto 2 pages this morning before work, that didn't work either.

Will try to break it up into 3 or 4 pages tonight.

Thanks Guys.

you only need the sections from system information to the bottom of sound devices posted.

It would seem that you need the CCC to use scaling to use the full screen on my new monitor.

Without it neither I or Dell couldn't figure out how to get rid of the one inch band of black all around the edge of the monitor.

What model monitor do you have?  While you may need CCC in order to adjust scaling options it is definitely not necessary in order to set the base resolution in order to take advantage of the entire screen.  In other words not installing CCC should not cause the black band around the edge of your monitor.

I have a feeling what was happening is that you had the resolution set too low and it simply was not filling up the monitor.  The old CRT monitors would (in a way) increase pixel size in order to fill the screen.  LCD's don't work that way and instead have to "upscale" the image if it is set to a lower resolution which can cause quality and sometimes performance issues.  Sometimes the monitor can do the upscaling but sometimes monitors don't support this and rely on the video card to do this task.  Both issues are resolved if you simply don't worry about scaling and set the resolution to your monitor's "native resolution".  Most monitors today use 1920X1080 or 1920X1200 as a resolution but there are definitely many exceptions!

What would I do?  I would look up the specifications for your monitor to get its native resolution.  Then uninstall CCC and reboot and then set your resolution to that.  See what kind of performance you get from that and go from there.  There really isn't any reason that your hardware shouldn't be able to max out all of Aces High's graphics settings even with CCC installed but when the video card has to render scaling, sometimes goofy performance issues arise.  I also use Tray Tools instead of CCC for my 5830 video card but it doesn't support all features and has a little bit of a 'clunky' interface (but still works well) but to be honest, unless you plan on overclocking or using custom video settings, neither Tray Tools or CCC should be necessary.
