Field of View problem.
« on: September 05, 2011, 02:25:42 AM »
OK, after being in beta in 1999 and declining to join up, I finally created a paying account tonight.

1st sortie, no kills, good fight, got tag teamed.  Dead.

2nd sortie, 3 kills, landed with damage, but had a wheel off the runway, ditched.

3rd sortie, 6 kills, landed with damage.   :rock

Yes, it was all in a Pony.  And yes, I was in a gaggle of, uh.... bishops, while whacking somewhat inferior numbers of ... rooks, but I'll take it.  :)

Felt rather good.  The Warbirds(tm) skills translate much better than I thought they would.

At any rate, I can't seem to get the FoV zoom to work (Z, [, ], SHIFT-Z). I get NO response whether I use the keys or map it to controller buttons.  System is in sig.  Any clues?  Did a short search on Field of View and didn't find anything.

Thanks,

BB

The command names and corresponding functions are reversed in the keyboard information on the clipboard and the help file. ZOOM IN is listed as left bracket, but it's actually right bracket. If you use the left bracket as in the keyboard commands GUI, you just stay zoomed out and it would appear that zoom isn't working.

The Z key toggles using the brackets. Hit Z, then try using right bracket to zoom in. Then you can use left and right brackets to zoom in and out. Z toggles you back to default view.

That may be what's happening.

If you have tried some head tracking software you may need to hit "CNTRL F5" to get out of that mode and into the free mode.

Fugitive, no head tracking.

Rolex, in my note:

I did read most of the online help and have the quick reference printed out and have perused the keymapper.  Everything in keymapper is at default, and even when I map the commands (toggle zoom, zoom in, zoom out, default zoom) to controller buttons, no go.  It simply doesn't respond at all.  Every other command I have tried or mapped does work.

I thought it might be because I have the "Let AH choose Field of view" in the AH box, so I switched it to custom (and didn't change anything else), and still no-go.

Puzzled.

Do you have zoom mapped to an analog controller?

Just a button, like all the other commands.  Haven't tried to map it or mouselook to the cursor control/mouse stick on my CHPro yet.  THough I'd really like mouselook on that ministick.

Shouldn't matter though, since the keyboard command doesn't work either.  Yes, in airplane mode, though the view keys are common to planes/vehicles it would seem, based on a quick perusal.

Just flummoxed and irritated as a quick zoom for shooting would be really useful.

Mapping zoom to an analog control is the only way I know of to make Z not work. You might check your axis mapping if nothing else works.

When you open the controller menu and hit the Z or bracket keys they should appear in a menu box along with their associated command if they are mapped.

If you are zoomed out all the way you won't see a difference when you hit Z.

Are you loading the CH software? Even if you program the buttons in AH I believe you should have the CH software loaded also.

CH software is loaded, but nothing is programmed, everything is a directX button.  Sidewinder pro stick, which is not mapped to CH software, obviously, but CHPro throttle and pedals.  No logitech software loaded.

In the axis selections, nothing is loaded for zoom.  As my test, I have buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 on the logitech stick mapped to z, [, ], shift-z.

x,y is not assigned on the throttle (ministick) and x,y is not assigned on the propedals (gas/brake rotations).

x,y is pitch and roll on the stick, z is yaw on the pedals.

Even before I had any zoom mapped - the keys did not work.  I'll try to get some screenshots tonight of everything.

Did you map a button to the zoom command or did you map it to the letter Z?

You can map the pedal rotation to individual wheel brakes.

Oops, sorry.  Mapped to the command, not the keyboard emulation.

Oooh, didn't think about that for the pedal rotations.  Thanks for the protip.... :)

I'm stumped. You might try re-installing Aces High.

Also you could try mapping view zoom toggle to an analog axis just to see if that works.

You have a MS Sidewinder Pro stick but you mentioned Logitech software and stick?

heh, one more misspeak.  My WB squad CO has a box of Sidewinder pros (FFB) since he swears by them.  *I* use the logitech 3D pro, though I'm getting tired of replacing it once a year.  Might actually pop for the combatstick and deal with its weak springs.

Are you actually firing up the CH Control Manager and downloading a profile? The only time I run the software is if I have to double-check the calibrations. Otherwise, I map everything from inside the game and have had zero issues.  I'm using CH Pro Pedals, CH Pro Throttle and CH Fighterstick.  Oh, and TrackIR with ProClip (just thought I'd throw that out there too)  ;)

No I am not.  Its just the unified driver that makes me calibrate through the CH Control manager instead of windows.

But it still doesn't explain the lack of response to z, [, ], and shift-z.  Just dealing with it for now, will worry about re-install later.

If you save your settings folder first the re-install is very quick.
