Ki-61 Pilots
« on: September 09, 2011, 09:33:58 PM »
Are there any Ki61 über elites drivers out there?  :D Im really into the Ki61, and not to brag but I consider myself at least above average than most who flies the Ki61. But of course, I'm always looking to improve.

I set the cannons out to D600 and MGs at D400. I almost always take 50% fuel unless for long distances which I take 75%. I love the way the plane handles and it's gun packages. Ballistics seem decent, they're no Hispanoes, but I like them. Roll rate is great, and I'll BnZ targets I can't turn with and TnB with those I can like 190s, 109s and the likes.

Only real trouble for me is against planes like Mustangs and La7s where I can't climb or fly as fast as they can, and they'll hold all the advantage as soon as I drop below their altitude or with less E.
The Tony doesn't exactly accelerate like those two and it's top speed is mediocre, how can I out fly these guys?

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

The ki-61 became my main perk gathering plane.  Ive been experimenting with convergence. currently i have the cannons set at 350 with the nose guns set at 400, but i plan on changing that again soon.

It really is a nice plane for what it is. decent gun package, decent performance.

I had a 1v1 against a pony. I'll share my advice, im new to the KI61 aswell, and the pony was flown by a vtard. so take my advice for what it is  :lol

The pony had a 3k alt advantage on me, and attempted to BnZ me. Every time he did, i'd break away from him. Finally i think he was starting to get frustrated with his BnZ fails, because he followed me into a turn, and attempted to turn fight with me, which I easily outurned him and shot his tail off.

I treat the ki61 as an 109f4 with 2 cannons instead of 1, drag them to the deck, drag em into a turn fight, and you should be able to survive  :salute

I like the KI-61 as well and there are at least two varients i would like to see in the game...one has more powerful engine with better speed and climb rate and was used in quantity and in combat and got kills(KI-61 II). and the other was the earlier version with 4 X .50cal machine guns...its lighter than current  model and has the best climb rate of all KI-61 and KI-100 plane series.

Uber elite ...questionable....but I have spent a small amount of time in the Ki.....the biggest thing is find your niche for defencive fighting...now this doesn't mean being on the defensive at all times but fighting from a defensive position....most planes you come across have supeiority in some way or form however the Tony I find is a bit of a jack of all trades master of none and as such can mimic other fighters well.....you need to beat the pilot before you will beat the plane in many cases...I never consider the higher alt ride to have the advantage...it is right where I want them :D.....I do die alot because of this mentality though.

Keeeping E is essential as ..you know.....it doesn't accelerate or climb well...if you enter into a fight expect to be there till the end good or bad.....you may get a glimmer of escape in some instances but even with a good head start most other fighters will run you down...

I find a good speed for turn fighting is the 250 mark 20mph either side and you're good...over the 280 I find the turn is hard to keep up as I black out trying to get a tighter turn than many others.....
F4u's,F6F's and 38's are hard fought fights...if you can beat the name players in their respective rides then you don't need any more advice...

Guns I move between 375 and 400...depending on my mood...no real reason to converge the 20's other than for over the nose as they are pretty much a straight shooter...

Fuel....pretty much as you say.....

when you have alt....keep the nose as flat as possible and only nose down to gather a bit of speed...do all you can to bleed E from a con before you even attempt to follow up...be sure to (in the case of F4U's) bleed only enough to allow them a notch or 2 of flap as once they pop them all it is almost a fore gone cconclusion....most 38's will do their loop de loop thing...try not to follow..keep straight lines if possible..(something I fail at miserably :D) and keep your SA up as those planes below you can get up to you quicker than you can climb away from them in a lot of cases.

I can only talk about the 109Gs vs the Ki-61.
They turn very well in the flat turn, use it as your advantage. The turn radius isnt as good, you may be trouble in the rolling scissor against the spitfires, so try to maintain your energy even in a TnB situation.

What hurts the Ki-61 is the lack of acceleration and very poor flaps. This means that once the fight gets slow, the Ki-61 is in trouble. Once below corner speed, any 109 will dominate it, especially the G-2 and F-4.

Hmm sorry Ace, I HO if I get fired on first or it's a 3 v 1 or more, which was definately happening over TT. But thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it.  :salute May we see each other in the virtual skies more.
