Help us improve
« on: September 24, 2011, 01:49:12 AM »
Downfall was designed to steer the battle in certain directions and create specific challenges.

The first being that the Allies would need to silence shore guns in preparation for an amphibious landing. Then the amphibious landing itself.

Apparently there has been some difficulty getting LVT's ashore. Not sure if this is a function of steep terrain, a map bug or something else.

Does anyone have ideas on this?

Enabling limited planes and only ground transports at easier to capture v-bases was to incentivize the capture of an airfield to bring air transports and medium bombers into play.

I realize that this may necessitate long boring drives in M3s, but keep in mind this is suppose to be a challenging battle designed to go back and forth and last several days if not the whole week.

By the same token, Axis would need to deploy their defenses to best counter the allied objectives.

One of our concerns was that the CV's would be taken out too quickly, so we doubled the hardness. All CV's have survived the first night, so have there been any attempts to sink the carriers? Was the hardness increased too much?

We'd like to hear your thoughts based on what would create the best challenges and most even battle, not necessary what would make it easier for the particular side you fly on.

No guarantees that anything will be changed, but we will take your insights under advisement.

VMF-222 flew AvA last night, (FSO off night), and we really enjoyed it.  Very nice how you could choose a different aircraft from each CV.  Alot of good fights, mostly on the deck, short flights to the fights.  We would certainly have preferred to have had an axis squad to fight against, or at least more axis to even the fight out a bit.  I was surprised there were not more people there.

My personal opinion, lose the GV's, fun killers for me.

I think the shore battery's are too hardened.

Upp'ed a 29, was bombing from 15k, i droped atleast 10k lbs of ordance on one shore battery, didn't do a dam thing to it.

I didn't get to fly but when I got home from work at around 12:20am est there were 17 players. Some folks may have just gone to the movies or something when the servers went down earlier.

Hmm, not sure what's going on there. Those were actually softened to .5 and even the default is only 4-1000 pounders to kill, and the downtime was upped to 10000.

The patches for the custom arenas did introduce some bugs but don't know if this is one or not.

Shore batteries must take direct hits because of the steep terrain they are surrounded by.   The normal collateral damage from near hits is lost because the damage radius is not great enough to overcome the vertical distance.

At least that is what I have been told.

Ok, I have mentioned this to Jimson already and he is gonna run it by the Staff...what I am suggesting is to have at least 1 permanent Axis and Allied Squad or at least 5-6 Pilots on either side so there is always some type of balance. For instance, I have recently began flying in the AvA again and started JG-5 on the Axis side. This is not because I only fly Axis rides because I have flown 38s and Jugs a lot lately, but because I enjoy flying KI's and 109s whereas a greater majority stick to Allied Rides. So, I am going to stay Axis and would like to recruit some more LW and IJN Pilots to fly in JG5 and to give the Allies a Helluva fight. What do you guys think about that?

It would be really good if you could get both squads to set up a night that both are on at the same time.

This battle seem to have moved to a stalemate where allied get a foothold only to loose it a little later. It seems that players choose to dogfight rather than land grab(which is the goal of the scenario).

So far the battle is pretty even. So even, in fact, that neither the allied nor the axis have been successful in fulfilling their objectives. Maybe base taking is just not for the average AvA flyer?

Of course this is just my 2 cents. Any setup with the hogs will have me flying there.

base taking for the objective was much more common with icons off.  Now with them back on the planes are easier to see so most players gravitate to what they do best, furball ( i could have said hoe, run, pick, gang but i was trying to be nice)

Icons definitly have both pros and cons. For the pros, it does make planes spotting easier, for the cons it does make planes spotting easier. It's kind of a win/loose situation. I like the little wheels it give me as I wont loose a plane because I'm fiddling with track ir that doesn't respond the way I want it to or loose a plane 200 off my nose just because he's below me and blend with the ground. Maybe a shorter icon range would fullfill the intended help by overcoming the fact we stare at the 'world' through a monitor that does not show things like they really would look IRL without making long range detection too easy. Beside for long range detection we already have radar and it does show IFF information. Any settings would have their pros/cons.

Any way just my 2 cents again, and with all due respect.

The AVA is a fun enough place to fly thus far with the current settings IMHO.
