I am writing this using two keyboards simultaneously, 10 finger method, both hands using a board of it's own. You can check which buttons have been pressed with which hand. So I guess this proves that a with a secondary keyboard the message bar must be off if you want to use it as a controller.

Nevertheless, I'd like to know how the wiring is done. All modern keyboards seem to have a three layer film system under the buttons, and although changing the buttons to switches is in theory a simple task, soldering the switches on the plastic film doesn't seem like one.

The film is plug into a board with a processor on it. You would solder the wires to the board where the plug for that "film" connects. I'm not sure of what kind of matrix the film is but I would think its a row/column setup. If you connect row 3 with column 12 you get a "G", and if you connect row 3 with column 13 you get a "H". I have a couple of old keyboard, I'll tear one apart when I get time just to check it out.

take a picture of the keyboard before you take it apart.  I took mine apart to clean it after i spilled soup on it.  my mind went blank, all I could remember is where the space bar went.

Update

For those that don't remember. I just started this not too long ago.

Well I have now added a few new features, about 35 of them. That is 35 new programmable functions to make use of in AH.

Here is a few pics of the new control panels.

Panel closeup

Left side

Right side needs a few more switches and buttons. I ran out since I figured out how to get the additional functions out of the hat switches.

Overall layout.

I am hoping that soon I can get the switches and buttons the way I want them so I can start breaking it down to paint and then get to some sort of wire/cable management.

i am now starting to believe there is a limited number of buttons that will be recognized by the game.

i guess after the five that are already in the works, i won't be adding the last 10. as things seem to get a little weird using even the amount that i have now.

Nice pit!

I have multiple switch panels in my personal simpit, with 22 functioning buttons plus all the buttons and switches mapped on my joystick and throttle setup.(same as yours-ch fighterstick and x52 throttle) with no issues. what may be giving you a problem is some of your analog settings getting remapped. try remapping all your analog inputs. I used pirated joystick components in my switch panels and when I first hooked them up all the analog inputs defaulted to them.

Good thought valu. I gave it a look but no duplicates. Oddly enough it is the last 3 buttons (numerically) on the X52 which are mapped to range vox, WEP, and weapon select. What's really weird is when I press the one lighted button that doesn't work it blinks, as if to say there is an error.

I did a full count of all buttons recognized by AH and the total is 116. The work around that I found though really strange is to open up the properties for the X52 in devices and printers. If I leave that up while playing AH I have no issues. I tried updating the drivers, thinking that maybe it had to do with Windows 7 and incompatible drivers, with no success. I guess for now I will just have to use the work around and do a little experimenting to see if I can continue with the extra 14 (I goofed earlier with the 10 claim) buttons I want to add.

Thanks for the compliments and the help guys. I loved flying tonight though getting used to the extra 35 buttons was quite a challenge.

After a few PM's to Skuzzy, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is not with AH. From what Skuzzy told me DirectX handles the controllers and AH will accept every button that DirectX throws at it.

I will need to do a little more testing to see what is going on exactly and to see what I can get away with yet.

BTW EBFD I don't even have any of the ones you gave me in the new pit yet. The buttons that I have in right now came from my old Logitech sticks that the pots had been worn out. I will be making use of those though, especially the twisty stick from the x52.

Lovin the new buttons though. :rock
