Haha yeah, we are the coolest people alive playing our World War Two combat simulator.  That doesn't make us nerds, yeah.  Oh wait... this is definitely nerdy.

(Image removed from quote.)

No, cause we're the small minority out of the very huge game nerd franchise. So we are actually against the "man", and subsequently, we are the cool guys.   :rock :rock :rock

The fun in WoW is working with a team to achieve a goal.  Raids were a lot of fun.

Aces High is a pure meritocracy.  If you get into the same plane as someone else, the only thing distinguishing the two of you at that point is skill.

WoW is a blend - it's a meritocracy and a geritocracy.  Clearly those who've played for awhile have an advantage gear-wise, but Blizzard makes the previous raid tier's gear available easily for casuals/slackers.  Thus there's never a massive gaping discrepancy in gear between the best-geared and the worst-geared.  The thing that's overlooked though is that WoW is a game that requires quite a bit of know-how (in terms of proper specs, gear usage, swapping out gear and specs for certain fights) and skill in execution.  I've seen two players in exactly the same gear do dramatically different amounts of damage; only skill accounts for that difference.

I wholeheartedly agree though that leveling in WoW is a horrible, no good, terrible thing.  Yuck.  Ugh.  Pass.

I'd be willing to bet there are in the neighborhood of 20 guys that are the ones that actually come up with the best builds, gear specs, and so on in the entirety of WoW.  The rest are just copying the results off the wiki.

When you can build a bot to play the game for you, it doesn't require much skill. ;)

You can copy character builds off of Elitist jerks all you want, but if you don't know how to play your class (hit your rotations right etc) you're DPS will be significantly less than a game in exactly the same gear. So, levi is correct in that it does require some skill.

yeah happens to MMO's, they all take skill and you need to think in most of them, don't expect your level to do all the job, the more level the more ways people on your same level can exploit to kill you, newer things you don't know about and etc... I never played WoW but i had my Runescape years  :noid yes I said runescape.
back when they had good old wilderness pvp and other fun stuff

Ah... going to the wiki and learning what rotation to use, and then hitting the buttons in the right order at the right times is the skill part.  Got it.

You do realize if it weren't for the EULA, a bot could easily be written so all you'd have to do is keep up with the target selection.  Not what I'd call skill, more repeating a series of actions ad nauseum.

WoW is a VLT in a chatroom that you rent for $15 a month, nothing more.

Please....not one word of that applies to PvP combat in WoW. Go ahead, create a bot, then watch it get roflstomped by every average player in the game.

Btw, people do write bots and they farm gear and gold with them. If they get caught the account gets banned, but it does happen.

It was fun on the first character. By the 5th character I seriously contemplated paying a leveling service.

Wow, really?  Almost like it's 'against the EULA' as I stated above, eh?

You're right... there would have to be a bit of logic to the bot for PvP.  It would have to know what class you're up against to determine which slight variant of your rotation to use.

The game is harder than you're giving it credit.  A LOT harder.  The issue isn't necessarily hitting buttons in a right order, it's reacting and predicting while adjusting a rotation... learning how to line up cooldowns, learning how to manage limited resources.  And it relies on others to be able to do the same in order to succeed.  Have you ever even played WoW?  If so, you either played with an amazing guild that made it seem easy, or you didn't actually raid at all.

WoW PVP bored the heck out of me FWIW.  If I wanna play against another person, Aces High is the game for me.

I was able to level two characters to 70.  I only made it to 80 with one character.  I couldn't even bring myself to do it again in Cataclysm, and I quit right before that expansion came out.

I played up to Cataclysm, bought it, canceled not long after.  I didn't do a lot of raiding, did some PvP toward the end.

There is a best rotation for each spec/class/enemy combination, and it's my opinion that the ability to line up the cooldowns to maximize your capability is something that could be automated.  That's all I'm saying.
