Still got a few spots left....
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:40:36 PM »

Need some able bodies to fill out the 88's and 190-F8's.   I can tell you now, those two squads will be the difference in this one.

I am currently registered with I/Jg27 but would like to withdraw from this squadron and fly with I/SKG10.  One of my squadron mates is flying for them and would like to join him.

4440, let me know if you are OK with that, and I will move him over.

Hah!  I've got first dibs on any 190 fighter bombers trying to get to the English coast! :)

Hah! Typical of the brits to single out one aircraft for slaughter... Such tactics are for the feeble-minded! what shall happen when the mighty jagdgeschwader pilots swoop in from above? You will be finished!

I accept your challenge, corky, pray we meet on equal terms, and when German engineering prevails, I do hope your airfields and ports feel the wrath of the butcher bird :aok

What I have to hope is that cartoon life imitates history :)  May 25, 1943 4 Spit XIIs of 91 intercepted an estimated 15 190 fighter bombers of SKG10 on the deck headed into Folkstone and claimed five for no loss.  It's on the cover of the Osprey history of 91 :)

anyone else ever notice in vintage guncam videos that the german pilots never dropped their externals? makes me wonder if it was from being stupid or stubborn or both...

I think it has more to do with the one you don't see gets you.  No time to react as the shells are thudding into you.  In the JG300 history there are some stills of a 51 getting hit by a 109.  Straight and level, tanks still on.

Late in the game I imagine just the inexperience of some of the pilots the LW was sending up didn't help.

There's a book by a former 190 pilot called "Betrayed Skies".  I'll have to find the part where he describes that moment where he got hit.  Best description I've read.  He was one of those later in the game replacement pilots.  Absolutely in love with the 190.  His descriptions of getting in and flying it are enough to make you want to fly a 190.

i can't remember where i heard this, but IIRC Hermann Göring at one point forbid the fighter pilots from releasing their droptanks do to (shortage?)      i'll try to dig something up on it
