Wing tip vortice trails
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:55:20 PM »
OK it's been 4 years...Every 4 years I roll up my sleeves and sit down to request white condensation streamers from wingtips . Computers have more than enough horsepower to handle this nowadays and they could be triggered below, say 4,000 ft and pulling more than 3 G's. The idea is that they don't always appear. This only approximates real world conditions but really adds to the immersion in a fight.

I don't know why the computer hit thing coes up everytime this come up. HTC makes this kind of stuff to where it can be toggles anyways so I don't know why it would be that big of deal.

Ok, but only if we can opt to disable smoke on a field...not to more easily see the enemy, but because of what it does to frame rates. :salute

so there's a mission and it will just create smoke all around.  how about in furball when there's 20 or 30 airplanes?  how do you think it's gonna look?

agreed it is gonna look amazing.  And, it only happens at Hi-G right?  So its not like everyone is going to have them.

+1 for wingtip vortices.

Exactly. Only hi-G.

So my B-17, wading in with the 12 machine guns, would not create vapour trails.

ya sure because I'm always looking at my wing tips when I'm pulling 3 G's under 4K

I'd rather see them work on the next plane after the loser one this poll is going to get us.

come on swoop, another twinkie rush? why would you be looking at your wingtips when pulling a high g maneuver? that's not "immersion" it's "oh kewl".

The savvy pilot would be able to see the trails on his opponent and tell he's pulling hard and scrubbing his E. It would also add interest in films.  It wouldn't be like hangar smoke, clouds, or engine smoke. These would be small, thin, and be only short-lived trails that dissipate quickly.

:headscratch:  considering the lack of realistic atmospheric conditions and the rarity in which it would occur...i still see it as an "oh kewl" factor. i can already tell when someone is pulling hard, if i'm not blacked out trying to follow i'm close to it...  :D
