I use mine maybe 1/2 the time. I thinks its very useful in WWs and jeeps/GVs, manned guns....ect But to always have it on when flying is disorientating.

Fugitive, if you'd like, I can put them on the Trainers FTP. I don't know of anyone is willing to download a 3rd party program just to download another file.

I spent what free time I had today trying to set up my older TrackIR 4. I'm using the new TrackIR5 software, and I'm definitely not getting the full movement for some reason. I moved the IR device and the monitor as far back as I could, but that didn't correct it.

Am I missing something?

I got trackir5 (tried both the passive metal clip and the IR side clip) last year, I couldn't ever set it up to work reasonably for my drunken self.. I move around way too much, apparently.  Either way too sensitive, or not sensitive enough. Honestly I don't know how you guys can tolerate moving your head but keep your eyes on the screen..

You may already know this but to be safe check out what I posted here..
A few questions..
Whats going on with your Camera info in the TrackIR5 software? What are your geen dots doing? It sounds like your to far away. 2'.5- 3' feet max is all you need, no need to be more.

It could be the hight relationship between your clip and the camera>

This trick helped me. See the camera showing in the image and the 3 green dots?

Look at the screen as you would sit to fly. Then hit your track Ir center button.. Then look around and be sure that the 3 green dots stay green and don’t turn red.

When you have it set up correctly and the dots are always green when you look around, you will be all set.

Its that simple.

I find a faster profile is better. You can wip your head around much like a bird of prey also you don’t have to move it very much at all to have your in game head move allot

Below is how I have my Tir set up. If your camera is not catching your reflectors its not always distance it can be height too.

You will have to find the right spot... You will know your there when all the green dots stay green and do not turn red... Red is bad No read allowed!

Also if your having trouble shift the entire curve up see the curve outlined in red? Right there. Pm or ask here, Ill do what I can to help.

Just a note, they don't recommend getting ot too far from you. It definitely has a range it's best in

I use both a combination of trakir and hat switch.  as I pause trakir when i dont need it.  it helps on those moments when there's no cons around and I was to just sit back and if i need to look behind me i just use the hat switch.

also you cant use trakir while flying bombers as it doesnt work that way, or while gunning or in gv's.  so no you cannot get rid of the hat switch completely.

"Calibrating it is a real pain, as lulu said, but it's by far the most important thing to determining whether you will like it or hate it.  Your TrackIR profile is probably the most individual setting you can make in the game, even more so than your joystick button setup.

I had to do some calculations (few) and a lot's of proofs
to avoid that the 'damned thing' went too fast during panning.
After all i was also a bit luky to get the result after 30 proofs about ontly!

I used this criteria:

1.  AH VIEWS in relation with monitor are this (it's a black art!!!):

tl       htl         tc       hrt    rt

lc        hlc        c        hrc     rc

bl      hbl          bc      hrb     br

c = center of the monitor, tc = top center, hr = hal right center and so on.

2. Fix your TIR curve so that when you look at one of theese points on the monitor
then in AH you can see the VIEW YOU LIKE - not the view that you have in reality
otherwise tir becames unusefull AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FOR HEALT'S NECK

For example: if you look at hrc then you got right view -- not forward right view.
And if you look at rc on your monitor then you got back right view.

3. Now probably panning is too fast. This is the part of pain.
You must do manually some changes in your curve and proof them.
I find that this wowrk for me (yaw axes):

    a. from  c (center) to HALF HALF hrc (half right center) ---- slow

    b. from  HALF HALF hrc to HALF hrc ------- a bit more fast.

    c. form  HAF hrc to hrc ----- quite fast  so that i can get right view

    d. from hrc to rc repeat c. and b. point

I know this can sound too much clear but i must go out of my home now.

Hope that if someone else develop a better thing then this, He will post it and does not take it
as 'secret'      :noid  !!!!????

:huh

Using TrackIR does NOT take this much effort. Creating a profile is pretty easy. Took me 10-15 minutes at most to tweak mine and I've sent it to many other players who have been happy with it.

As for "calibrating," i have no idea what you all mean by this. There is no calibration, per se. All you have to do is open the software, adjust the camera so that your lights/reflectors are in the center and not a mile away and then press the "center" key so it can sync it's view with yours.

I say this as a warning to people considering getting a TrackIR. It is NOT as hard as all this, really, and it is worth every penny. I cannot and will not fly without it anymore, it's THAT good.

o-OH,

Calibration or rescaling that's the question?

I said that i'm not rescaling only, i do a calibration too (or adjustment - better perhaps? The pizza seems the same!).

Because to made TIR work well (accurately) i did something like this:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calibration

Where the first device was my head itself - obviously i did not write down on a paper its
velocity and acceleration.

With calibration TIR would work more accurately.
I cannot rescaling before to know how (with which velocity and acceleration) my head rotates to reach the important points on the monitor that i discussed - and the distances between that points depend on monitor
so that a profile good for a 17" monitor would not work well on a 23" monitor.
