Strangely enough, the D.A. prosecuting the case disappeared in '05...

Wow,  didn't know that, interesting link..  It also mentions the DA first looked into the allegation against Sandusky in 1998 when a woman and her son came forward, but nothing happened.  The following year "Sandusky" quietly retires.  Penn State must have known,  why else would he retire the year after.  Then to have another person come forward in 2002 and still not do anything....   What a mess...

The worst part in the case IMO, is that a trainer walked in on sandusky and a boy and didn't say anything!

I havent followed this very closely but Ive heard the word "child" and "boy" that was abused. Was this in fact a "child" or a student over 18?

That grand jury report lists 8 victims all aged between 7-13 years of age.

the grand jury report can be read.  http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2011/11/10/penn-state-sandusky-paterno/

i couldn't bring myself to do it.  it just gets worser and worser.  i'm sick of heart and mind.

and very much ashamed that folks who do the right thing come under the gun.  the assistant coach who blew the whistle is receiving death threats.

Approximately 10 years old.

As for the threats and student riots....... just Penn State dirty laundry coming to the forefront.

Normally they are very good at covering this type stuff while looking down at the scandals at other institutions. It was only a matter of time before something in the machine broke. This is far worse than any other college/university infraction that I have ever heard.

ultimate power corrupts..ultimately.

sure hope this sweeps colleges across the country to turn back to academia and an education as their primary concern..and establish tough tough oversight over athletics.

with that said...you really can't legislate morality.

at the very least...it would have a nice "trickle-up" factor in pro hoops and the nfl..which is being invaded by spoiled, college coddled kids...as a result of their perceived importance in the world.

So it was a child then. All this time I thought it was a college student and wondering why paterno should have gone to the police for that. Ya Id say he royally screwed the pooch by not doing so. How could he face the guy knowing he did what he did? Doesnt show alot of character on his part.

Paterno deserved to be fired for such a lapse in moral judgement.  Who doesn't go to the police immediately after hearing a firsthand account of a child being raped.
