I am a Civil Engineer/Land Surveyor.

On the Engineering side: there is nothing more satisfying than driving on a road or highway past a school or residential plan that myself and my team designed, knowing that well after i am gone, that i helped in creating a place for kids to learn and find themselves and homes that they will develop lifelong memories with their families and friends.

(Riprap — also known as rip rap, shot rock or rock armour — is rock or other material used to armor shorelines, streambeds, bridge abutments, pilings and other shoreline structures against scour, water or ice erosion. Riprap works by absorbing and deflecting the impact of a wave before the wave reaches the defended structure.)

On the Surveying side: I love history.

Certified HazMat heavy equipment operator, when the Fire fighters are leaving, I am going in with a dozer, blade, or loader, all the time hoping the firefighters don't use foam or water on my machine.

mannnn....i think i feel sorry for you.

you must have to put up with a LOT of bs from pissed off customers.

funny thing though......my cable was out here at the shop a few weeks ago. a truck had driven through the cable....dunno how, but he did....ripped it right out.
i was disgustingly nice to the call taker, who said they couldn't get anyone out here till between 12 and 5. it was 930 when i was on the phone. the service dude pulled in at 1100. he assessed the situation, and went to work installnig a new cable from the pole, to my shop. it started raining as he was setting up, was nearly torrential downpour when he was up on the ladder....and literally stopped as he connected the final connection. he refused to take anything to drink, or a snack(i keep plenty at the shop), but i did tip the guy rather well for what he did for me.

Its not as bad, generally people are pretty nice. The ones that give BS are usually ones trying to get handouts or trying to get things for free

I like to think of myself...and often tell people...I am retired...because it makes me feel more relaxed...but that's not actually true

although I have spoken about being an attorney..I never in my career practiced law..it was a prerequisite for my career.  I'm a retired agent in the entertainment business and I still offer personal management services to a very limited client roster.

I've always wanted to do what I did.....and I was always more interested in the goings-on of the entertainment business behind the scenes.  my hero/motivation/guru was peter grant...led zeppelin's notorious manager...although I ended up augmenting into comedy during it's boom in the mid 80's...and quite frankly I got lucky by being in the right place at the right time.

looking at a lot of you cats here who build, construct, and create things....I can't help but be jealous....I wish I had that kind of talent.

I'm the Technical Support Coordinator for a commercial cooking equipment distributor.

I'm responsible for warranty submissions and credit processing, parts and equipment orders, over the phone technical support, part returns, damaged good inspection and repair, and scheduling all off-site service agent training classes or seminars.

Yet I still find time to lurk here during the day  :aok

No, we don't deal with residential lines.  Now don't get your panties in a bunch!  Yes, they both do make commercial equipment, but their mainstay is yuppy upper end residential stuff.
