The Run
« on: November 16, 2011, 08:46:20 PM »
Not sure how many Driving Game Fans we have here, but anyone looking for a new game or considering the new Need For Speed: The Run...it's well worth it. :D
Been playing for a few hours so far and loving every mile. The Logitech G27 supports the game well so feedback is awesome, til ya hit an ice patch when braking/turning and you realize just how little you really control a car at 180mph.
Basically the game is a race from San Fransisco, CA to New York against ~200 racers split into 10 "sectors" that are full of smaller races (Race is almost the full ~3,000 miles worth of driving). Every so often you get Gas Stations to change cars and Quick Time Events where you acquire new cars on foot. Been through CA, NV, The Rockies, flat lands of South Dakota, and more. In downtown Chicago right now with a recently "acquired" Audi R8. :P

I can only run it on Medium annoyingly (GTX 260, Phenom II, 4GB), but it still looks great:

Definitely a fun game for any of ya drivers.

Question-  Do the cops harry you during 'normal' races, or do they just occasionally throw in a 'the cops are chasing you' race?  That's the single thing that made the early NFS games great IMO was that you'd often hit a speed trap in the middle of a normal race and have to deal with the cops trying to stop you as well as the other drivers.

Cops are staged, but it's not to the point where you start a race with cops in tow. They'll be driving around or sitting on the side of the road waiting. The races are split in to a few categories: Vs Drivers, Vs the clock, Vs a "Rival", Vs The Mob, Elimination Rounds, and such. Cops will appear randomly (randomly if not expecting it anyways) throughout those races to do their thing, sometimes through multiple races if ya don't lose em. The Road Blocks and tactics they use are quite intense at times, they setup roadblocks before and after bridges plus the 2 man makeshift roadblocks are a royal pain on ice. :D

Running from the Mob:

And a little Porsche fun (not a fan of the car but man those NY streets are hard in a Camaro!):

Nice pit 68! Wish I could have used metal for mine but I'm cheap, no good with that kind of thing and am lazy.

I race (and fly, and type, and so on) in this:

  :D

Greetings from Tioga Pass, CA!

Beat The Run earlier today, started it again on Hard and going for a personal best time, and after a nights stay in Las Vegas (crashed the game there, so we'll just say he's gambling) I'm gonna hit the open roads for an all day non-stop cross country race. :aok

Looks pretty darn good for saying your lazy 1701E  :aok  Nice thing, with it being wood, you can customize it as needed.

I also forgot to mention that at the Museum there is a F-14 setup with three cutouts and you can do carrier landings on it oodles of fun for the price.

I use the Logitech X530 5.1 System and love it. It's an older set so harder to find, but I've had excellent results with any of Logitech setups, not too expensive and still a great sound. :D

Thanks for the compliments on the pit, it gets the job done normally.

Almost beaten the game for a second time (Normal first, now Hard). However my all day race across the US ended with stopping in 3rd place due to having injured myself with the endurance race (that much rapid steering, think I pulled something).
But greetings from Jersey!

They overdid the "Hard" setting (pushed my cars to the limit and barely made some of the Time Trials) considering it's not even the hardest setting, but it's still way too much fun!

No they've added a new sim where its big f-14 actual cockpits that you get to sit in and FLY the F-14 and try for carrier landings and try to shoot down a Mig or 3 with a wingman. They also added 2 360 degree full motion sims that you control also. Then they just added a new 55,000 square foot wing. They are doing very well and its nice to see the place grow.
