Hey guys and gals playing Aces High,
I wanna ask a question,
I am wondering if I can use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick on Aces High. I am planning to order one from Logitech.

Most here would NOT recommend the Logitech sticks. For a cheaper stick the Saitek sticks seem to hold up better.

If you are going Logitech I would recommend their G940, it is a little more expensive but the realism is there also.

Some people have had issues with theirs but I have had none so far and I can say this I beat the snot outta mine. The FF is an awesome thing too, I tried a friends Saitek x 52 which I had and it felt weird to me because I am used to the feel of the stick getting heavier in tighter turns.

Just my 2 cents

3dpro is one of the best low end joysticks.  will last you about a year which isnt bad for a 30 dollar stick.   all sticks have their problems.  I had my x52 far longer than any of the 3 ch fighter sticks I have owned.

You can but it sucks IMO.
In doing some additional repairs to my CH stick a whole host of wires came disconnected from the circuit board. I just dnt have the patience anymore to try and reconnect them anymore and Im getting a new Fighter stick for Christmas. So in the meantime Im using an Extreme 3D Pro that my son had laying around.
And I hate it.
Plenty of buttons. But not laid out where I need them to be.

Note to Rooks and Bish. Enjoy it while it lasts
Though if I had three arms it might be perfect.

Before you shell out big bucks on the G940 make sure you watch the reversal bug demonstration video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZlUWwOJUN0

These are also prone to having wiring problems in the throttle causing the throttle trims to fluctuate as you move the throttle up and down.  Eventually this can cause those trims to quit working altogether and for buttons to quit working intermittently.

I fixed my G940 by completely rewiring the throttle and by running all throttle and rudder axes through a third party controller board.

Also amazon has the G940 for a few bucks cheaper CLICK HERE

For a (relatively) inexpensive starter stick I have to recommend the T16000m.  Hall effect sensors make it precise and it's under $45 shipped CLICK HERE

And soon after I posted this.. one of the gears in my stick got stripped. But Logitech says I can buy a new one at 50% off and free shipping. So I dont think that was a bad response from Logitech.

Tigger they have the reversal bug fixed with the newest firmware and software patches, I can say this because before I installed them I had those problems. Then they went away. As for the t1600m I would say that is a good starter stick.

I have extensive experience with this joystick and I like it. Here are some video clips showing how I use and configure it:

You can use any controller recognized by Windows.

exactly what FLS, posted. Most any USB joystick will be recognized in windows(xp,2000,vista,7 )

get comfortable playing the game and  learning the games mechanics before plunging off the depend like alot of us do ( eventually )

then after you feel that you are going to become a lifer ( LOL ), you can purchase yourself a top end HOTAS setup albeit  CH Products, Satiek, Thrustmaster or Logitech, etc........

hope this helps,

Haha yeah! When I got mine in 2006 or 2007, it lasted for like 6 months then it quit working because the potentio-meters went bad in it, I put it in storage, I live outside the U.S.A. so I cannot ship it to Logitech for repair. That's why I am planning to order a new one.

If you are new to Aces High its worth buying a logitech 3d to get the feel of the game, however if you have any hours under your belt its time to decide if you are just playing for fun or going to upgrade to a real stick.

I highly recommend not going to a Logitech period if you are planning to fly for a while, I've had multiple sticks in the last few months and its not worth spending the money over when many other sticks have longer durability, I fly pretty average and the past few I've had lasted no more then 2 months before they start breaking down (i.e twist part starts bouncing, or the stick becoming to sensitive) which requires maintenance because every few months you will have to keep up with lowering the sensitivity to off balance the stick.

I would highly suggest looking at a Saitek or CH products, even $100 stick is better then whatever crap logitech sells.

I must admit my flying hours aren't ruining my family life, but way back when I started I used to fly a couple of hours daily. My first Logitech lasted for several years until the centering spring fell off it's place, perhaps due to wrong kind of lubricant making the plastic bristle. The second one was in use until Wmaker borrowed it and said it spikes.

I have to mention that I disabled the twisty on both, as well as on my current Thrustmaster TopGun Afterburner II hotas, using the pedals of my steering wheel for rudder.

I have liked the ergonomics of all of the three, they are formed for bare human hands on desktop level.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Thanks for all your posts! :lol  I remembered when I was 6 that my dad bought me the exact same joystick but 2005 edition. I played it with Combat Flight Simulator: WWII Europe Series and after like 6 months, the joystick went bad. It wouldn't control properly. And I would not spend my money on a Saitek as it is expensive.
