My experience proves otherwise, I think they are very reliable. At least Nissans are, don't know about other Japanese manufacturers.

toyota, honda, and subaru in that order are the only japanese cars worth owning. subaru is only last, as i've heard 2 instances where their customer service with major problems sucks.

I highly disagree....but I guess you already know that.

yea i know. i make my opinions from experience. i get a lot of emissions problems on mazdas, before they should have them....althought hey run well otherwise. nissans i see emissions problems, and have had some flood in the winter time, when started and shut off too quickly. this shouldn't be possible on fi cars.

subaru.....have a customer that used to have an awd wrx sti. the transmission broke at only 16k miles. literally, it broke. supposedly it was something with the syncros being made of too brittle of a metal, causing them to shatter, and in that instance, they'd trash the rest of the tranny.....subaru tried telling him it was his fault. he had to take it all the way to corporate.......it took him nearly a year before they did anything with his transmission. he sold that car, and won't buy another subaru.
the other customer bought an entire new clutch set from subaru, and had me install it. this set included a new flywheel. these cars use dual mass flywheels. the car came back in 2 months, with intermittent gear jamming...sometimes in gear, sometimes out of gear.

to be honest, i thought i messed something up.....tore the thing apart again, and found it looking like there was birdshot flinging around inside the bellhousing.
what had happened, was that the bearing/bushing in the dual mass flywheel was bad. this allowed the pressure plate to rub parts of the flywheel it's not supposed to touch......causing this appearance.
he took the entire thing to a local dealer, at subarus direction. not a single one of the techs or service manager knew that the flywheel was bad. he had to show them, since i showed him.
they tried to offer him a new set at 50% off. it took him nearly 2 months to get them to handle it.

to the best of my knowledge, they've still not taken care of his having to pay me the second time, but i know he's working on that. he's also stated that this is the last subaru he's gonna own....it's ashame too, as they're nice cars.......

So that's why you don't like Subaru....what's wrong with Nissan? I still drive a 2000 Maxima, works great. Had a problem with an alternator ones and that was it, In 12 years I think that's pretty good.

nissans are like mazdas. i seem to be doing too many emissions related repairs on them too soon. i've had a few timing chain failures, and i have a customer right now with an altima, with leaking injectors. all 4 of them. that car only has 70k on it.

i've had a camry with over 600k on it in the shop, although the owner admitted that he replaced the original engine at 320k. another customer with a solara with over 300k on the clock. another camry with over 300k.

i've seen one nissan with 278k on the clock. that one wasn't in such good shape. it showed every one of those miles. it was a maxima, and i have to admit, that i like maximas.....the 90's ones. don't much care for the newer ones.

 it's also partly preference........

Well I'm happy to say that my experience proves otherwise. Nissan makes good cars, I would not compare them with Mazdas, Toyota, or Honda. Sure Nissan also makes cheap cars like altima, rouge, and a few others, but unlike other Japanese manufacturers they also make good cars.

i wouldn't say unlike others. the camry is one of the most dependable reliable, and robust cars on the roads. same goes for the civic and accord.

that being said, i'd never buy one though. why? cause they don't have 400+ hp v-8's.  :devil

my dads civic makes a killer 140hp with a 1.6 or 1.8L engine.

You really can't single out a manufacturer as being crappy........especially when others have years of dealership level experience in multiple brands and can bring manufacturer printed examples such as recalls, campaigns, and bulletins to the table.

How long before there is a campaign or recall for that chinese transmission?

I've owned 3 300zx turbo cars with over 300,000 miles and currently run a 250,000 mile L28et on 15 pounds of boost.

It uses no oil between changes.

I have performed hundreds of toyota and lexus SPA gel campaigns as both a toyota and lexus master tech.

The new generations of toyota/lexus engines routinely fill with carbon requiring me to go through a complicated process to remove the huge amount of carbon that ends up on the intake valves even though they are direct injection engines and don't have injectors spraying on the backs of the valves.

I use this because nothing else comes close whether seafoam, BG products, or other manufacturer spec. cleaner.

i have access to them as well.  :devil :aok

bg i've never believed in, although i've had excellent results with motorvac.

what model lexus? i just did a search, and there's nothing concerning carbon buildup. at least not on an 09 rx350. no recalls, no tsb's. that i can find in my system.

I seem to remember replacing all valve springs in every single lexus logitudinal engine made from 2007 to 2010...........and replacing brake boosters and master cylinder rear seals...........and finding almost every toyota/lexus transverse V6 made from 1999 to 2006 full of sludge and leaking from the valve stem seals to the point that they required disassembly and time spent in a "cuda" machine just to remove all the sludge.

That's just toyota...............all of the manufacturers are damn near even in longeivity and I would never consider Nissan anywhere but within the top 3.

my mistake, was confusing it with something else I drove recently. it was a twin carb 1.4l single cam, pretty sure the clock redline was 6800 but it was fine to 7000. you may not have had that engine in the US, honda produced so many different versions.

btw thanks for implying I'm a liar :aok

I had a 2.0l carbureted (A-series - A20A1) in one of my first Hondas (a manual '87 Accord LX I think).  They red-lined at 6250 RPM but could easily push/shred into the 7000s (like Holmes, I plead the 5th :D ).  Was my longtime favorite engine (and car) until my brother neglected it (kinda his fault, but all things considered he could of learned the same lesson at a much higher expense).  He seized it comming out of a tunnel, going uphill on Kanan Canyon.  He didn't notice it was having an overheating issue (likely another shot thremostat, a common problem with most Honda A-series engines here in So-Cal with me personaly) until it was "too late" ( :huh ....  well at least he's never over-overheated an engine since, glad it was at least my favorite...  I love my lil' bro, but this is the one thing I will never "fully" forgive him for, lol).  By then he was entering the tunnel, and by the short time he exited later the engine had seized and he barely had enough momentum to clear the tunnel and make the shoulder.  This was late one night when him and his fellow underage teenager friends had scored some booze and beer and were heading to the beach for the evening (did I forget to mention he had it overpacked with passengers too :furious ).  Thankfuly he called me first and I hauled bellybutton to get out there before a Sheriff showed up (we can assume even the dimmest one on the force passing by would of had the math skills to quickly deduce 8teens at 3am stranded in the middle of a canyon road on a Friday night =/= a 5-person sub-compact).  I made a deal with him and his buds, they could go off and continue with their plans/party/tail, I'd stay behind and deal with getting it towed home in the middle of the night, he could borrow my functional automobile, so long as they first went back to the valley and got a second car and semi-designated driver for the evening.  And somehow, like usual, I still ended up taking most the blame/flak/hate/damnation from the folks over that car's downfall, lol (no, seriously, I ended up with no car for like 7-months and handed down the functioning car in my posesion at the time to my lil' bro).  That was like 15 years ago, and I still hold it partialy against him.
