I wasn't promoting the four cylinder as being superior, not for this application anyway. What are some of your favourite engines Cap, to work on and also to drive? Do you ever work on classic cars?

i've got customers with 67 mustangs, 78 cadillacs, 79 trans am, a couple of old chevys, and a dodge or two. those are the most classic i get to see on a regular basis. the 67 stang just got totaled, ad the guys grandson was driving it, and got rear ended. hard. got a guy used to bring his 69 302 4 speed camaro to me, but he had to sell that. that was a crazy fast car. he's since replaced that with a cobra kit car, running a 5 liter ford. got another customer with an 87 mustang gt convertible with a small block ford, a novi2000 supercharger, and a couple of 10 second time slips....street driven.....but that car isn't in my eyes a true street car. it's too temperamental.

for ease of working on, i like the 2.2 toyotas, and most hondas. they're all crazy easy to work on. most gm v-6's are also pretty darned easy too. i like the 3.8's....all of them, and even the 3.1 and 3.4's. they seem to me to go long times with minimal maintenance. got one customer in a 94 regal 3.8 liter with 317k on the odometer.

driving? nearly all v-8's for me. 97 dakota 318, and my new mustang with a dohc 5 liter. i still have my 89 wrangler with a 2.5 liter iron duke. slow as molasses in January, but she gets me through the snow.
i've also got my 5 liter fuel injected 78 fairmont futura.  :devil

Am I correct to infer that you have a V6 in your car and are offended?

Yea I got a VQ30 and no I'm not offended, I'm happy with what I got and it does the job great. Sure I'd like a V8 but I decided that I'd rather spend my money on the other two turbo I4s. First I was really curious as to why you though it was funny, then I started wondering on where did your incredible hate for the V6s come from.

So can I assume that you had some bad experience with a V6?

straight 6s are inherently smoother because they are better "balanced" than a V6 or even a V8, although a lot less compact. thats why we brits loved them and the Jag 6 was probably the most famous. same reason bmw built them up til now. could be wrong but I think Jag use V6s now, which means since TVR shut down we dont make any straight 6s any more :(

My '93 taurus has a 3.8l 6 cylinder. Pretty crappy engine.

those 3.8 liters are prone to head gasket problems. that being said, my 95 has 153k on it, and was getting average of 25mpg when i was still driving it. never let me down. ever.

It's a decent car (engine notwithstanding) and gets me where I need to go. Can't ask for anymore than that.

Its only got 44k on it, was my grandparents car. They are both in their 90s and stopped driving about when I started, so I inherited it. My dad is getting a new car soon and I'll be getting his 2007 Civic, and my brother will inherit the taurus.

i still wouldn't complain. as long as it's newer than about 1990, the taurus's are decent cars. they drive and handle well, accelerate nicely, stop nicely, and don't burn a ton of gas.

 wanna buy mine?  :devil

Knowing you I have no doubt that you'd buy those cars over the GTR. Z06 and ZR1 do have a faster lap time on nurburgring than a GTR but they are a "bit" more expensive.

You will then have a vehicle with a hell of lot more "reliability issues".    Nissans are horrible in this respect.   Only Japanese car worth owning (I would never regardless) would be the NSX.

The V6 is a problematic format from the design perspective. If you study the history of the development of it in detail to the point of your engine and understand the fundamentals of piston engine design you might see the source of my amusement.

I have driven a car with a VQ35DE engine for a while, in your country in fact, and I don't suppose it really matters any longer from the consumer's perspective.

I'd be interested to know why you're a fan of the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, as you posted earlier.

If you like to race farmalls than I guess you can put it there as well.

You do know what engine that is, right?

This is what I was referring to MachFly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuQYNj8oYqk&feature=related

Never seen that before. So they actually race them?

My experience proves otherwise, I think they are very reliable. At least Nissans are, don't know about other Japanese manufacturers.

The type of engine does not have to have a perfect history to be good. If someone screwed up something in the past it does not mean that it will never work.

But I guess you are entitled to your opinion.
