UK guys read !
« on: April 10, 2000, 01:18:00 PM »
Switched to http://www.redhotant.com/  as it is virtualy free (50£ / Year on a 0800 number ISP) I was affraid of the connextion quality...

Well, takes a few tries to connect, but they use the UUNET PIPEX backbone, & that is one of the BEST u can get in UK...

Played without lag for 2 hours, no disco, no warp...

follow my thoughts ?

Link seems to be broken, is it correct because it won't load for me. Does the service have a 2 hour disconnection time? most of the 0800 access ISP's run this terrible rule, makes it bad for online gaming and large downloads, I mean these days a decent demo of a game is around 20MB! I used to have an account with Pipex before all the free subscription ISP's came along and they were indeed solid as a rock for connecting to Warbirds.

Sorry !

Here is the correct URL : http://www.redhotant.com/

No 2 hours disco, I played 6 hours in a Row yesterday...

Bare in mind that I suffer from a poor BT line (I'm on a DAX)...and even with that AH is still a Blast !

Beware of BTinternet crap (£9.99/month unlimited). My account with them lasted 5 minutes at an average d/load speed of 1.4K . After that I called their sales and cancelled the account.

I use Claranet - £14.99/month includes 35 hours on-line. Connect is pretty good and support is not charged at some daft £1/minute or smth.

Would be great if other people post their experiences with their ISPs.

Still waiting for someone to come up with ADSL pricing etc...

This one looks cool tho, I didn't try the Altavista one yet...

RHA doesn't dump you at all, it might take a couple of tries to get connected, but once U're in.......U're in!...

My advise would be to wait another couple of week & wait to see more of them to appear, the only thing that SHOULD interest you if you want this connix to play AH is the Backbone they are using...

Snafy - ditch those BT morons . It's a rip-off!

The jury is still out on RedAnt thing (although I already subscribed ) and they've dropped connect once on me. But Getright 4.2 is coming in at 4.5K right now and that's 3 times faster than I ever managed on BTinternet...

Hi all

Cheers for the tip, I signed up with RHA this evening and it already seems quicker than BT!  I didn't have many problems with BT and my download speeds were as never as low as mentioned above.  I was with Clara thingy 35, which would end up costing me around £45 at times!  Ouch!

Cheers Saw

Hi Saw,
Not having a good week. I have subscribed to RHA but so far despite trying 30 times at a stretch still no connection "The line is busy" etc. Also tried "X-stream" (Same result). BT is still connects 1st time everytime but..... Pings of 1300+ tonight.   (Might try the Panzer. Shouldn't warp to far in that   ).

As a side point. I get pings of around 195 to IMOL through BT (The AH route goes through "sprintlink" the IMOL route goes through "alternet").

Still pissed off (& £50 poorer)

Snafu m8 give them time seems the new area code is causing problems with teleco's switching at the exchange, its not their problem as once connected the speed is very good. They say give them 2-3 days to sort it.
