Vid Problem
« on: February 25, 2012, 07:26:17 PM »
Greetings gents,

Set up AH on a new comp and it works fine. Only issue is that the icon color will go out on me, friendly and enemy.

Also, a related probelm, when I have the clipboard open and someone talks on vox I get a box around all the aircraft in the area. When they stop talking on VOX, I'll close the clipboard and the problem is fixed. No more "boxes"

Any ideas?

It's probably the fact that you're using onboard Intel graphics.  This doesn't play well with Aces High.

You may end up installing a separate Video card, and possibly a power supply too.

How would a power supply help though? Asking seriously not being sarcastic.

No, the on board graphics doesn't do 3D well. It just doesn't have the horsepower to get the job done. You'd be better off buying a cheap ($100) graphics card that would help more than a power supply.

A power supply on its own won't help but your computer likely doesn't have a very strong power supply.  If you want to put any kind of decent video card into it then you'll need to upgrade the power supply as well as the original power supply won't provide enough power for it.

I am running integrated rith now, AMD quad core A6 HD 6350d graphics and 2.2 g processor, and have had no issues running at supreme frame rates (59-60 steady) except in one major pig pile where it all freaked out. I haven't gotten much time playing with the new comp and graphics, and will likely have to make some adjustments, but it also is running 8gb RAM. Could the OP's problem also be improved by upping his RAM if possible?
Also, I do not recall how to run dxdiag. Just type "dxdiag" into the "run" window? I did it once on my last system, but long time ago.

The 6350 is a video card, not an on board video  setup like the OP has. The problem is the on board video just isn't made for gaming.

It is A6 3620 APU. It says they are integrated HD 6530d graphics. I have the option to add a card if I wanted. I just don't know how well it matches up against the OP's setup.

that AMD apu is a bit short on cpu power for aces high, while the OP's apu is way short on gpu power for aces high...

It's an integrated AMD chip.. not an integrated Intel chip.. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Turn off, and/or crank down everything in the game.  Start in the "Video Settings" panel, and set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 128.  Set the video resolution to 1024x768.  Disable any anti-aliasing, if you changed it.

In the games Options->Graphic Detail, set the sliders towards performance, and the distance slider very close to 0.5 miles.  Check all the options with the word "Disable" in them.

In the games Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced, make sure the ONLY options selected are "Detailed Water" and "Bump Mapping".

See if that helps.
