Shubin at Guadalcanal
« on: March 05, 2012, 02:19:49 PM »
I'm working on my next mission. It will be based on sketchy historical information from the Guadalcanal conflict. I'm calling it "Shubin at Guadalcanal". In the actual mission, Lt. Murray Shubin was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for downing five enemy aircraft in a single mission. Here's a preview:

Wow. That was excellently done, bbosen. :aok

I look forward to trying out your mission. The voice comms are great, but when they double up it gets a little confusing. Add in some custom sounds, and it'll be REAL nice :)

Hi Peabody - was just surfing around for some info on Shubin and got to this Pittsburgh Press newspaper story about his marriage, and his combat exploits. On this same page is an article, among many about the war, about Pappy Boyington missing in action.

Thanks Old Sport! I had not seen that article before, and I enjoyed it very much. I haven't been able to find very many details about Lt. Shubin or this battle, but it evidently got a lot of attention in its day. I had not known that Shubin endured malaria in addition to the obvious stresses of combat on Guadalcanal. Flying this offline mission during my development work while I'm pretending to be a member of Shubin's squadron has been enriched by reading this news article. I appreciate you finding it for me.

I'm continuing work on this and it's getting really sweet. I edited the voice comms to clean them up a bit, eliminating the loud squeals from times when several were transmitting at the same time. I hope to have this ready for release next week.

I'm working on my next mission.
I've looked at the write up on a lot of your missions, it seems they're all about the P-38. Nice plane & all but a few missions with P51's, P47 or F4U's would be nice :)

Have you tried this one:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah2Missions/PacMix01/Ah2PacMixMissionFullPage.htm

It has P38, P39, P40, P47, P51, F4F, F4u, F6F, FM2, and a wide variety of Japanese fighters and bombers.

Also this one:

On the allied side, it has P38, P51, P40, P47, Spitfire, and Hurricane fighters, as well as heavy bombers. On the axis side, there is a wide variety of german iron....

I've also published detailed instructions for changing the aircraft in any of my missions. Look here:
