So I got into a 1v1 with a certain person tonight and was shot down.

After about 10 minutes this person voice PMs me and starts to chew me out. What it all boiled down to was that he did not like the fact I didn't salute him.

Now he says that is the custom for the vanquished to salute first. I tell him I do not salute really at all. His response to this was "you lost my respect and all my friends respect."

My respect account was now zeroed out maybe even in the red.

I don't know who is right here. Should I salute or not?

Sounds like a sore WINNER to me...I am a huge fan of "play the game like the other guy wants you to"...it makes for a much better world.

I've always thought it was proper for the loser to salute first, but I also realize that not everyone believes what I do. I generally salute win or lose if I think it was a good fight. Heck, I've saluted 2 weekers just for trying to fight. It's nice to get a salute but I certainly don't expect them.

As far as i'm concerned the ole boy you speak of in your fight, cancelled out any hopes of a salute then and in the future when he PMed you in a rude fashion.

If its an unusualy good or exceptional fight I will certainly salute first and will always return a salute. But dont expect me to salute you if A.  pick me taking off/refueling B. pick me while dueling someone else.

Right.  I disagree with the actions he took, but I understand where he's coming from.  Every time someone doesn't salute me back after I salute them I know they didn't see it or didn't want to salute back.  Feels like a slap in the face sometimes.  Especially after those long, hard fights that gets you pumped.

This happen multiple times to me by my old squadmates, I took it both ways and Just said the heck with it.

That is kind of how I feel but if someone salutes me, even if one of those two conditions are met, I feel like a jerk if I don't salute back unless Condition 3 has been met.

Condition 3: Its late at night, the arena is dead, and I've been drinking.
