Setting up 940 Pedals on USB

I have a Logitech G940 and a squaddie is going to be sending me a X65, I know that the 65 is twisty but i dont want that.

I bought a converter, serial port to usb, and what I am trying to do is use the rudder pedals with out plugging them into the joystick.

Here is what I am talking about, for what I have.



I did have to get a double female converter to get the 2 of them to connect.

What do i need to do to get the computer and the game to recognize the change.

This link shows how to use the pedals with a controller board instead of the joystick. A controller board would also let you hook up additional controls like analog trim and extra buttons. It also shows you the pin assignments of the pedal connector.

OK I wont be using my joystick to connect my rudder pedals, I want to make them run separately.

The link shows you how to set it up without a joystick. The OP in the link is using his stick and throttle but that is not required for the pedal mod to work.  What you want to do just using adaptors will not work. You need a controller board to tell your PC what you have hooked up.

EBFD, you need a controller board.  These run about $40... -OR- if you have an old joystick sitting around.. even a broken one you may be able to salvage the circuit board from it and wire the rudder pedals into it.  If you buy a bodnar (BU0836) board then that link shows you how to wire it up.  If you use an old stick then you'll need to disassemble it and figure that part out on your own.

The problem is that the rudder pedals are electrically nothing more than three potentiometers and depend on Logitech's controller board in the stick to interpret the signals and send them to the computer in a language it can understand.  This is why a simple adapter won't work - because there is no controller board to tell the computer what's going on.  They simply weren't designed to be used on their own.

To be completely honest here I can tell you the G940 pedals aren't bad but they aren't perfect either.  I personally felt like I had more precision with my old Saitek pedals than with my G940 pedals.  By the time you pay someone for parts and labor to make the proper modifications for you to use your pedals by themselves it may be more cost effective to just buy new pedals...  Your best option may be to purchase a 9-pin adapter, splice into it and connect it to a bodnar board yourself.  If you just want to use it for rudder pedals then there is no need to take the pedals apart.

I'm just offering advice not services.

One big advantage to a controller board is that you can use it for future expansion but if you're not interested in that then given the cost, work, and time required you're probably better off pedals. I believe the cheaper Saiteks are just as good as the Combat Pedals, same pots and board, just plastic pedals instead of metal. The Combat pedals that I have do spike a little but not so much that it's a problem.

Well I just ordered a set of saitek pedals, I got the pro version. So I guess I wont be needing the board.
