Watch "The Sky Crawlers"
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:01:24 PM »
Brilliant Film If you want to watch a movie that feels more like a novel than a feature film.  To an AH'er I think you could really get into this film.

Part English, part japanese in language (but subtitled) Its a story that reveals itself as the movie progresses.  I recommend watching it without looking it up, or finding out anything about it first.  Take it as it is.  It is a little slow to start because you have to get accustomed to it. (kinda like reading macbeth for the first time)

Think of this as a novel that instead of reading...you watch.  Available for free streaming on netflix.

Finally, the end plane looks like a Focke Wulf/Me109/P51 Hybrid, that alone is enough to waste a couple hours on MK84's recomendation ;)  But again...It's way better if you just click and watch, and not know anything about it beforehand.

It's great, but weird... It's a Japanese anime after all. One of Mamoru Oshii's best.
No gods or kings. Only Predator.

The aerial scenes were pretty cool.

Here's one.

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

Westland Wyvern vs J7W maybe?

I think I rented this many years ago.

I remember seeing this a long time ago. Someone even posted the "blueprints" of the 190/P51/109 hybrid. The link was Japanese and I wonder if it's still up.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

The movie was pretty good but it had too much dialogue, not enough action IMO.

Westland Wyvern...

I think that might have been meant to be a Ki-64.

And IIRC there was a Sky Crawlers game made by Project Aces where you play as "The Teacher".

Eh, I'm not an anime fan really.  I kinda ran out of things on netflix to stream so I started with Appleseed, and the Vexille.  Those were both very impressive examples of anime (well cgi anime anyways)

Good enough that I paid for Appleseed ex Machina on amazon cloud, and I wanted to see if there was anything else as good.  I tried the sky crawlers based purely off the cover art.  Turns out it was completely different than the first two (both worth watching) but was really fantastic for me, because of the err interesting mixes of animation, and very strange mix of English and Japanese I as a viewer was almost forced to imagine the plot as it unfolded as much as watch it.  Kinda like a novel  but with visual clues.

It's free if you have netflix (prolly free on youtube as well)  and is absoutley worth a viewing if for nothing more than its a totally different movie expierence, and an AH'er could relate a bit better with because of the content.

To sum it up you may hate anime (and I'm still on the fence with this one)  I doubt this will give you a representation of what anime is anyways.  It's worth a watch for its freshness because it is like nothing you've seen before.
