A guy was complaining tonight on 200 that the Spit 16 should be perked.  I asked why.  He said a good pilot in a 16 is almost unbeatable. 

A good pilot in any plane can give the easy mode planes a run for their money.

I'll step up and say... yeah, it'll eventually run just about anything down, but you'd be surprised how long it actually takes vs it's contemporaries - often long enough for help to arrive or make it back to friendly AA.

Ah, the battle-cry of a weak argument.  If so many agree, where are all the replies here agreeing with your proposal?

For the record, I agree it's an exceedingly good plane (and ideal for base defense), however it's probably not perk-worthy.  I also agree it is a bit of a dweeb plane, easy to fly, extend and HO in.  It has its deficiencies, particularly range – I believe due to some of the fuel compartments actually being dedicated to stowage for an assortment of shoes, purses and cocktail dresses.  No need to make La-7 pilots lose perks when shot down, in addition to losing a collection of eveningwear.

La7 is one of the top 5 planes based on speed, handling, climb, dive, flaps, guns, range. The F4u4 pwns it (f4u4 pwns everything tho), the spit16/F4u1A/C-hog is close tho.

I do not think the word "pwn" means what you think it means.

the only spit in your favor is the 16 after I first returned jan '11, when in the first few months you were able to get that 2 - 10 run.

I don't think I have the problems with LAs that some seem to have. I don't know where yall get these charts so I can't tell for a fact.

I get shot down much more to other birds I'm sure.

I know I have said it a bunch of time - the La-7 always seems like a fairly easy kill to me, unless you come across someone like Shane who knows how to fly it. No need for it to be perked!

even looking at only oct - dec '11 it's still  23 - 12 vs your spit9, 31- 12 overall. Looks like I'm just getting better and better vs you as that rust peels off - now motivation otoh...  

I jump into a spit9 to show you you're not all that as a turner (sorta like Hamr is going to be learning as time goes by.   )  I think I've also shown you that the spit9 can't really touch my lala unless I want to the play TnB at 140ias game. The lala *can* control the fight through speed - as you've also learned.  

<edit> but more importantly, how many times have you died from an advantage compared to vice versa? well, to be fair, you've always been at a disadvantage simply for two reasons: you're in a spit, you're midway    </edit>

Well I am an Lavochkin dweeb and enjoy it....so I guess I have a vested interest to leave stuff as it is but with some 11,000 unused fighter perks (cos I never use them) it make no odds.

I know there are some players who consider the MA a place for "duelists" and really do not like it when their opponent (of lesser skill) can disengage rebuild his/her advantage and then re engage. The La7 allows this at a pretty basic level because the fight can have become quite close and protracted without the La7 pilot having had to fully commit to the do or die manouvre.

Once upon a time the La7 could dive away from combat at 12 to 17K and gain considerable separation. Now agin P51's, Spit16's, and any 109G6,14, K4 the La7 is out dived in a straight dive and whilst it can reach 500mph at that speed it has far less control authority than the above and so cannot out manouvre until it can slow the fight down to 250-300 and use its engine to gain angle and  separation .

BTW a whole host of AC can now dive with (but not faster than) an La7 if Co E and both are at a high onset speed. (ie the dive acceleration is drag orienteted and not engine orientated).

Other than this its guns are not the best and its endurance is pretty poor.

BTW the best buff hunter IMO is the 109G14, upto 25K and the P47N above 25K.

However it does not meet the current perk criteria in the least.
