New TrackIR system is having some problems
« on: April 02, 2012, 04:29:07 PM »
I was excited to see the patch...  Seemed to work good in the Ki84, a plane I fly a lot...  And the F4U-1A a plane that I had trouble with TrackIR before...

But when I got in a P40N...  Not so much...

I paused TrackIR and set my forward view to this...

But when I unpause TrackIR I get this, which is unusable...

I haven't had a chance to check other airframes, but definitely a problem for the P40N

EDIT To add:  Seems to be all of the P40s

Checked these airframes with no problems so far:  Ki61, Ki84, F4U-1A, P51D, Bf109G14, C205, 110C, P47D11

Definitely having the same centering problem that others are reporting.  My first screen shot shows where I set my head position, but it does not go to that spot when recentering on ANY airframe that I have tried so far.

I've never understood this centering method you fellas use. I have a TrackIR 5.   When I center it, the head position is 'centered' in the view regardless of current head position or previous setting. It has always worked that way and still does. You seem to be suggesting that you can adjust some kind of head position and when you "center" it it goes to that position. I have never experienced this.

I sit in the chair and hit "center". My vertual head is centered in the cockpit. If I feel that my resting posture in the chair yields a head position that is not where I like it, then I reposition my body...duck slightly, and move away from the screen slightly, and "center". Then when I move back to comfortable resting position my head is forward and higher in the cockpit.

I have never been aware that the center of the cockpit, as the game understands where that is, can be moved and saved.  :salute

Vinkman,

A few patches back, HTC changed the TIR settings to "center" on your saved (via F10) head position at the "home" position. So if you want your normal head position up high and back away from the panel, you (with TIR suspended) move your in-game head to that position and save it with F10. Then when you activate TIR again and center it, your are centered at that saved home head position.

It seems that this latest patch, to address some other issue users were having with TIR, reverted back to old routines where this no longer works. I for one cannot fly anymore (or fly well) because I've lost my muscle memory for the hat switches; and I cannot be effective if I can't see over the instrument panel in a zeke, etc., etc.

Dave until they fix it you can move your head opposite to where you want it centered, reset center, and you'll be where you want to be when you sit normally. That's been my habit from before the update that let you reset the default position.

Edit: Like Vinkman already said.  :aok

Vinkman,

Good to know. I never tried that so for me I didn't know I lost that cabability. As FLS points out, and my previous post points out, there is an easy work around. Of course that doesn't resolve your issue if that "saved head position centering method" provided the ability to use TrackIR in a way I've never thoguht of. I've heard some say they revert to hat view mode for certain views in certain planes, and writing a macro that switches between the two would be easier with "saved head positions" to reurn to, vs returning to TrackIR mode and manually having to adjust to a desired centered positon.  perhaps HTC will add it back, on top of these mods which are a huge improvement for me.  :salute

Actually, the hat switch will override the TIR input. I used to use my hat "forward view" to steady my head for shooting, until I gave my TIR profile a slight dead space in the very center. Now I can move my head around a little (it's fatiguing and hurts to keep your head perfectly still) while just flying around and my in-game head stays pretty still.

Until HTC fixes it again, I'll just use the "duck down and center TIR" workaround. Although, I'm guessing it will create some slight weirdness in looking around, as the TIR "home" center point is no longer centered on the AH "home" center point view.

I'll give that a try FLS.  But I don't think it will help the P40 line.

CRAP!

The A6Ms are FUBAR just like the P40s!  Man I hope HTC fixes this soon.

EDIT TO ADD:  The F6F is hosed too!

This is what I get with TrackIR on...

I can pause TrackIR and adjust to get a view like this, but as soon as I unpause TrackIR, it goes back to the first image no matter what I do.

It occurs to me that fixing the centering issue would fix these other problems too.  Would be able to adjust the center position to fix the P40, F6F, and A6M issues.

I'm sure it's a bug not a planned change and it will be fixed in the next release.

It might help if more people try the test releases when they are posted.

Honestly, I did run the test release.  Unfortunately I didn't test very many airframes, just the ones I most often fly.  Didn't even notice the centering issue, probably because I rarely have to re-center.  Took up flying the P40 yesterday because I was planning to use it in a duel, then the patch and it went kerflewy.

I'm sure you're right that they will correct it in the next patch.  Otherwise, TrackIR does seem to be working better then before.

I don't have TrackIR but I have centering issues too as I posted in the other thread, and as Imadot said I can't fly well without this fixed!!!

Dave that wasn't directed at you. I just made a general comment about efficiency.

It's all good.  I'm a little surprised the problems weren't noticed in the test.

The problems that were noted were addressed. Most of the complaints now seem to be the loss of the custom default position which I believe was unintentional.
