That looked great until I added the monitor and operating system. Then it put me more than building it myself. I am definitely open to more idea though, especially ones that save me a little $.  :salute

That is what I was wondering myself, what photoshop uses more. RAM or video card? I myself use PS5 with 4GB of ram (DDR2) and 2x HD5770s. 8GB of ram costs nothing these days, but I guess the computers I spec out don't ever include monitors.

Denniss, Seasonic also aren't what they used to be.

I'm almost positive it uses more ram than videocard. But I'll have to research that some more before ordering.

you are allowed to set your RAM usage within photoshop settings....

you will/can use more of your PC RAM than VideCard RAM....... all depending on how you have your photoshop settings set to........

my own experience

YMMV

This computer will already be overkill for what she does. I dont want to waste money on features she will never use. The mobo only has 1 pci-e slot and it will go unused already. I will probably change out the ps to the 120mm fan model, I didn't realize the one I selected only had an 80mm. I just like the single 24pin connector instead of the 20+4. If my computer takes a dump I will build a new one and salvage any parts I can for hers  :devil As far as the usb slots go, The current pc she has right now only has 2 accessible in the front (the rear are not accessible where the computer is located.) and those do not get used. I just don't want to spend more $ on things I know she will never use. I may also change the case for one with better airflow, but I dont want to spend a lot on a case as she could care less what it looks like. As long as she can  scrap book with photoshop and get online to check facebook and some porn sites she'll be happy.

If that's all the machine is going to be used to I would recommend opting for far cheaper parts still and ditching windows for linux. Nothing beats linux for browsing porn sites. With windows you'll be full of viruses in no time.

I know absolutely nothing about linux. I'd like to learn it someday but no on her computer. She sticks to the "safe" sites anyway. Haven't had an issue yet.... knock on wood (no pun intended)

If you (and your wife) would like to give a glimpse on Linux, try Wubi. It will install the latest version of Ubuntu from within Windows. It creates a dual boot menu showing at startup and is easy to remove via "Programs and features". The desktop looks a lot like windows with a twist.

It can be used as a sandbox in case you/she want(s) to look at some interesting websites you aren't quite sure of. Although Windows files are accessible through Ubuntu, nothing can be installed without the password. This guide might be of help... And if you get something into Windows that can't be removed from within it, the Linux will give you a backdoor option for removal.

Well I tried to instal wubi on my laptop (I am out of town at the moment) and after the 3 hour download (slow hotel internet) it have errors saying a hard disc could not be found  :bhead. I'll try again tonight but if it fails again I guess I'll wait to try it on my rig when I get home. Have you ever had it give an error about hard discs on install?

For experiments with Linux or other OS I suggest to use a virtual computer by installing VirtualBox or similar virtualization software.

Uninstalled Ubuntu from Windows 25 minutes ago, downloaded Wubi in ten minutes from here, another ten for installing. Just as it tells on "show me how". After reboot it did some settings on its own and rebooted. I'm writing this on Ubuntu, so apparently this is up and working.

Another way of trying Linux is to download an ISO image, burn it and run it from the CD. No installation needed, no double booting, no changes to the original system. There's a bunch of Live-CD's available.
