you would be surprised how boring marshalling can become, even the pilots get bored.  You learn to mix it up to keep your sanity.

I used to have to marshal commercial pilots, I was lucky if they even paid attention. Had the FAA guys come running more than a few times when the pilots would come ripping in and stop when they felt like it.
