Host-Squads (Stolen idea)
« on: April 19, 2012, 07:35:27 AM »
Following up a community design aspect highlighted in a recent article over at CRS (for those who know who they are).

I think its a genious idea, that trial players are instantly put into a host squad (one which signs itself up for it) instead of being left on their own.

This is truely a very simple concept that has far reaching communal effects and mirrors the realities of a family structure more then any other idea that I have seen.

The approach is *garunteed* to provide a higher attachment rate for new players to AH (for the sheer fact that they don't need to prove themselves in their presence in the game to be accepted).

The only downside is the long-term possibility that large squads become monopolistic and turn small battles into massive events in which individuals and smaller squads will have a hard time finding a place in unless they lose identity to do so. But this might be counteracted by stronger personalities breaking off and forming their own squads with followers in tow.

What do you guys think?

Thoughts?

Yeah we need more fresh blood.  Nearly all of our two week trials are almost over.  We may have to disband soon.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

In our current system interested squads can sign up new players. Another wish granted.

I would say we already have this in game, some of the larger squads do just throw out invites to people with no squadron.

I've managed to salvage some really good pilots that have been sucked up by them over the years or they have realised that there is a genuine British squad for them to join after they got bored of base taking and being bossed around  "PORK THE ORDS @  XXX"  etc.

Using the Mesmetron to cleanse their head of win the war mentality and chess piece loyalty. Then build a fighter pilot from scratch that walks in the light.

Did you sense a tremor in the horde force?

If the shoe fits, I guess...

But I'm guessing that Bruv can reference more then just the recent v-horde...

LOL.

I'm not offended if it is, simply because you can't know what It's like to be in my squad without currently being in it.  Yet many feel they are experts, sorta like jeremy clarkson reviewing a car from the front seat of another car.

We should make an effort to not let this degenerate into a Squad A sucks / Squad B doesn't thread.

<S>

The whole point is that someone with no flight sim experience will need some help getting started in this game or they will probably get frustrated and change games due to lack of success.  I was lucky enough to get picked up by RedDevil my 1st day in and helped out.  I'm not sure I would have stuck with aces high if it weren't for guys with a lot of patience who were willing to take the time to help me out.

Perhaps if the default vox was dedicated as the Noob channel we'd also get some vets to join it occasionally to help out and show them the ropes when they don't have anything better to do.

Do you know who Rolling Thunder is?

We were one of the original horde base rolling squads.  When our CO left and returned, he had to start the Alchemists because RT wasn't going back to base rolling.

Don't presume that you are the only base rolling squad...

Some of us have played both sides of the equation for quite awhile now...
