December 21st 2012? Well there'll be some fantastic end of the world parties. It's a Friday after all. Some people will wake up next morning or the next afternoon wishing the world had really ended!

In any case as we on this side of the Atlantic will reach the 21st before you guys. So we'll warn you when the Tsunami/Eruption/Tornado/Alien invasion or apocalyptic plague of locusts hits us. You'll have time to prepare!

If you're looking for the end of the Earth, you need to look about four billion years in the future when the Sun starts to run out of hydrogen and swells into a red giant, consuming Mercury, Venus, Earth and perhaps Mars.

Actually, the Earth will end before then.  Once the Moon departs its orbit of Earth (if I recall it is moving away at about 1 inch a year), the orbital stability of the Earth will fail.  Should happen long before the Sun will kill it.
