That's why local brewpubs are great!!

Tasty beer for a reasonable price while bolstering the local economy  :aok

The most popular local brewery in Lincoln is Empyrean Ales.  Pretty decent beers.

After hearing all the raves about Platinum, I decided to give it a try over the past weekend.   I did not care for it at all, I much prefer Bud Light, or the Select 99 for my just " hanging with the gang" at the bar beer.   If your main thing for drinking the Platinum is the raised alcohol content, you can do much better

Local and regional micro brews are great, and usually have a little greater alcohol content.   Being from Northern Illinois I can get some really good ones here like Capitol,  Sand Creek, New Glarus, Sprecher  ( Highly recommend this one )  and Point all from Wisconsin.   Bell's, Founder's, Grand Rapids, Keweenaw, and Dark Horse from Michigan.

2 Brothers, Carlyle, Goose Island, and Rock Bottom from Illinois and from Ohio I like Thirsty Dog and Great Lakes.   My daughter plays volleyball for Indiana University, so when in B-Town it is usually something from Upland for me.   Get out there and try some new ones, and never be afraid of the dark ones........ Mmmmmmm

Oh and don't forget the imports....... Nothing like a good German brew :)

...and almost anything from Hungary is what you want...
sorry but i laughed a good one on this.

My top 5 are:
Staropramen Czierny (Czech dunkel)
Black Boss (Polish dunkel, 10.5% alcohol)
Zlaty Bazant (Slovakian light)
Duzy Zubr (Polish light, cheap n tasty)
LöwenWeisse (German Weisbier)

NO Stella, Heineken, Becks, Tuborg, Bud, Fosters or anything. If something has an eyecatching commercial, it doesnt mean the beer is a quality one.

I grew up drinking Schlitz, Old Style, Pabst, beers that were very good until they decided to mass market them and they changed the formulas to make them last longer. Thats when American beer went to Hell, with exceptions like Lone Star, Leinenkugels, Augsburger. But Old Milwaukee, Drurys, Old Chicago, Bud, Millers, Hamms, Old Style, was the swill I cut my teeth on, "dont even mention Coors". When mass production became the order of the day Yank Beers went right to hell quality-wise. In Europe the people there take their drink serious. They dont care about commercials or what all the other rednecks think. They demand high quality brew.

Now America can compete with them. Even Schlitz went back to their old recipe and its pretty good, it was my Old Mans beer. But the micros put out some amazing brew. If I was still on the bottle I'd probably stay with made in America nowadays. Unless I was at NASCAR with 40,000 people who all have tans on their left forearms. Then I'd drink Bud, spit chew, and wear a John Deer cap.

I actually had some Shlitz the other night at a local bar.  Oh that "Classic 60s Formula".  It was "crappy beer night" and the stuff was like $1.75 lol.  It's half decent though I like it.

Idk why you think bud light is a redneck beer though.  It's drunk in vast popularity at most places, even high end clubs, just in aluminum bottles.  I associate NASCAR fans with Busch Light.

I always viewed Budweiser as more of the redneck beer than Bud Light.  Like I previously said (maybe in another thread), when I want to drink my "cheap," "low quality," or whatever other adjectives someone wants to use, I either drink Coors Light or Bud Light.  Personal favorite is still Michelob Ultra...that's my golf course beer  :)

Stella or your vagina?

Could you please describe to me what you like best about the beer in question using the following parameters:

1) Aroma
2) Appearance
3) Flavor
4) Mouthfeel
5) Overall Impression

Easy...1-6:  getting drunk  :devil

Beyond being a fairly juvenile response,  I am going to have to say that Stella Artois is probably one of the worst beers to consume for the purposes of "Getting Drunk".

At 5% ABV, I'm going to need to consume, at minimum, 6 beers/hour just to break the legal limit of .08 for being too intoxicated to drive, let alone actually being drunk...

That is a beer every 10 minutes which leads to a lot of pissing.  Not exactly what I am aiming to spend my money on...

If you have ever been curious how on earth Bud could have ever been awarded anything for a beer, do a bit of research.  It turns out that during WWII, with rationing, they had to change the recipe to deal with reduced amounts of grains.  This new recipe was well received by women, who were at the time a large portion of the beer drinking population.  After the war, they never went back.  If you drink Bud, you drink a womans beer.

Reasons why I brew my own
