I've still got it, well most of it
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:51:44 PM »
Found a sweet deal on a 7" Flip Down Car DVD CD Player GPS HD PIP Ipod Bluetooth Touch Screen for a little over $200 on eBay. After looking at what they wanted for similar radios at CarToys, this was a helluva deal even if it was an off brand. Thought it would be a nice addition to my F350, it's been years since I've installed a new radio in anything but I used to be pretty good at it back in the day.

I picked up a wiring harness and dash adapter at Autozone then went to work. Pulling the old radio was a piece of cake, but getting the new one to line up right with the dash was a PITA. The adapter faceplate opening was about 1/4" too small so I had to bust out the Dremel and an X-acto knife to trim it up.

This radio is very cool for the price. Similar ones by name brands were $500 and up (and they're all made in China). Having a 7" touchscreen for GPS is nice and integrated phone is much better than the plug in hands free I had. One less wire to deal with. It has a ton of functions and interfaces and runs Windows CE 6 so you can add apps. Now I need to add XM and a back-up cam so I can see my trailer hitch when hooking up.

When everything was said and done, it don't look too shabby. My lines are straight, the tolerances are tight and I only cut a small part of my thumb off with the X-acto knife.

Upon closer inspection, it might not be so easy to add apps. I confused Windows CE 6  "Yamazaki" for Windows Mobile 6 "Crossbow".
It can still be modified, just not as easily.

That is a device that gives you different readings on the engine while your driving... airflow and such. Works on all vehicles with the newer plugs for the computer.

It's a Scangauge II. Pretty neat tool. Ford gauges are notoriously crappy and it gives you digital readouts on everything your computer sees.

Heh, guilty. I actually did just that after I took those pics. I used an emery board to even out the wobbles. Need to get some sandpaper and work on the corners a bit.

I think They Were Expendable would be a good choice, but the DVD is disabled when the vehicle is in motion.

How do you know if it would fit? I might get that for my truck. Would make my vacation to Texas a lot more enjoyable for me and my friend

It's a 2-DIN head. If your car has a 1-DIN head then you would need one like 68zoom posted. As far as finding an exact fit, you can only rely on the aftermarket dash kit. Most of those are perfect on the O.D. but may require trimming on the I.D. like mine did.
