Sorry but what do I do first?
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:29:56 AM »
Hey,

Jumped on line for the first time and I think my laptop will run it :D Now what do I do, I have no idea!! Is there a guide somewhere? I just flew about for a bit getting a feel for it but had no idea what I was doing. I am new to all this and am used to Battlefield 3 where it is very simple. At the minute I am flying the Spitfire.

I tried looking at the radio to follow things but couldn't work much out. Really hope you don't mind all my posts. I'm a quick learner when I get going!!

Hi mate

When I was first starting out I used this website http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/  to read up and learn some basic stuff, and I tried to practice it in the offline mode of Aces High. I spent about a week just trying to do basic maneuvers, shoot down the drone planes and land without exploding :D

It is a steep learning curve and can be a bit complicated to get set up, but once you get going you won't look back :)

Where abouts are you from? It might be helpful for you to get some time with a trainer or someone helpful who can talk you through some things to help you get started

 :salute
Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Hey Nate, next time you're online, bring up the text radio with the slash key "/" and type .f imadot to see if I'm online. If I am, send me a Private Message ( .p imadot whatever you want to type ) and I'll be glad to meet up with you and give you some pointers about the game - how to read the maps, what kinds of things you can do, etc.

Definitely visit the Training Arena often. Once there, check the roster from the clipboard and see if anyone from the Training Corps is on - they are there to help. Even if there are no trainers on when you are, whoever is in there can help with the basics.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0
Track IR, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals

First thing you do is practice taking off and landing without auto take off. Turn off the stall limiter and practice flying as fast and as slow as you can. You can do this by flying up until you stall then diving for the ground but try not to hit it. Fly through the hangers. Fly around the field while keeping something in view like the radar tower. Learn to fly loops and barrel rolls while keeping the tower in view. This will help you learn to control your aircraft while keeping your target in view. Maintaining sight of your target while maneuvering is a very important skill. If you practice in the training arena there is often somebody there that can answer questions.

Just have fun, and look for red planes to shoot. One of the strengths of the game is that while there's a team aspect of it that can be fun you certainly don't have to participate in it. You can fly whatever, wherever you want.

A lot of players start off getting into base-taking, easy way to learn the strategic side and general concepts. You don't learn much about fighting though, so most guys move on. But the good thing is that there's always a hard core group of base-takers on every side, so that part of the game is always there when you feel like it.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
