Collings Foundation Me262
« on: June 30, 2012, 03:39:23 PM »
The Collings Foundation (http://www.collingsfoundation.org/menu.htm)                                                                               was at the McClellan AFB here in Sacramento a few weeks ago. They allowed me to go past the ropes and take some close up pics of their 2 seater Me262. So....here go

Beautiful bird...

I see the pull start ring for the two stroke engine that starts those engines.

Does this plane have the original engines?

Nope.

Basically the same engine on 20 series Lears.  Dressed up of course to look like a Jumo 004 without popping panels. If you've ever seen a CJ-610 (or J85) on a stand or just undressed of cowlings and accessories you could almost fit them on a skateboard.

Unfortunately I didn't. They'll be here again next year. The pilot(s) were out with their other planes & I didn't have time to stick around. Here it is on a YouTube I found...

They must have done a ton of research on fitting that cone that holds the original pull start ring.

From the front, it looks nearly the same as the original.

Nice work by those guys.
