Thing about the Hayate, when you mostly fly alone, is that it doesn't dive at all well. So if you fight with a little altitude you tend to have them dive away and completely escape or you have to fight and defeat them twice at two different bands of altitude. This takes too long and you can bet the other one is screaming on comms for help the whole time. Often I don't even bother climbing much at all to prevent this, but that denies you climbing away from a gang attack because there are always higher cons.

the hayate is a fine lone hunting plane, as he can run away from a part of the planeset, and outturn the rest. Combine that with above average hit points, you have a solid contender.

Its just not very good to bnz over large spaces, but you can't have everything

Welcome to the dark side.  Everyone reaches the point where they simply accept the fact that the Main Arena is a free for all.  Anything goes, anything can and will happen, and when you first stop caring how anyone else plays or what anyone else does, you can finally log in and fully enjoy the game for what it is.

Structure?  Special events. FSO, Scenarios, Snapshots, KOTH any number of regularly scheduled events each having a different level of immersion and restrictions.

You are on your own in the Mains, no one will ever play how you want them to play or expect them to play. To have an imaginary expectation of what people will say or do will never turn out well and will always disappoint you.  If a group gets together to defend the kingdom from the horde, Great!!  If not, no lost sleep here, simply don't care. The map will reset and all that territory lost will be recovered.   I shoot someone and they don't like the way I shot them, who cares, I was shooting them not inviting them over for thanksgiving dinner.  If I was concerned about what they might say or think about me, I wouldn't have my fragile little ego up in the virtual sky playing with guns.  Game has 2 levels, pleasant or irrelevant.  The negative wasted BS just isn't worth the little time I get to actually play so it doesn't get my attention.

I hate surprises.  If I expect someone to face shoot me, or ram me, or bomb my GV, or pork my base, or any number of things that will spoil my flight I will work tirelessly to avoid those situations.  Then, when it doesn't happen, I'll be surprised and pleased, and never disappointed in someone's actions again.

In theory yes, plus the energy building capability it is an outstanding aircraft. These assets are considerably diminished however when you have to face a gang of mixed aircraft. A decent turner and a decent BnZer tag-teaming the lone Hayate pilot means he cannot outclimb, nor outrun nor outmanoeuvre for more than several seconds, you have to overcome the sum of the parts. And that's just with two. Within minutes it is three, and four and five and so on because it is a manoeuvring fighter, not a travelling fighter, like your chosen ride is for example.

Danny's point earlier is also pertinent. Sometimes on CET the only fight available is one which is not in your favour. The other day we fought three N1Ks who where fighting at altitude above their base. Once they got in trouble, they showed a clean set of seven, I think it was, Split-S, looking each time to pull nose to nose for the HO or otherwise to spiral descent right into their ack. Of course they set it up that way but we were fed up with looking for people to fight so took what we could. Didn't end well for us of course, Danny fish shoes got smoked

Agreed.  I have numerous 'fair' fights nearly every time I log on and play.  They're just a small minority of the fights though.

Well done Ink, you have finally got over the silly martyr complex that seems to affect so many good sticks in the MA.

Prepare to enjoy the game a lot more.

I don't know if I agree this is a good thing. I don't really know Ink. I've had a few PMs with him, only ever seen him once in game and we were coincidentally on the same country. However I do identify with his mission since I think we have that in common. I know people like bustr tend to label it as 'elitism', and others as 'boastful' or 'egotistical' but I don't think it's any of those things. I think Ink and those like him basically believe that an individual using superior ACM and skill can outweigh two or more players who are more 'result centred' who tend to employ a low risk high advantage approach, and then he proceeds to go out there every time he flies to illustrate his belief by engaging at a disadvantage, fighting to the inevitable end and then also sometimes weathering the derision of those that brought him down by fair means or foul.

Respectfully Batty, I think having a martyr complex is slightly different: if you sort of go about that but then constantly moan about it or use it to get some other kind of acknowledgement.

Of course what Ink-like players do can become extremely frustrating, especially over time as the little 'fouls' add up.


All I'm saying is that I think it is a shame if Ink totally gives up on his main activity and essentially joins the herd of uber fast ride hit and run fighters. I think it would be a great loss (actually, I'm not sure it's in his nature to achieve it anyway, and that is further to his credit).
