109F experten available for practice/training?

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone might be available to work with me on the 109F?   I typically log in evenings 7-8ish central time, and will be on again tonight.

I just returned to AH last night and flew the 109F in combat for the first time.  What a fun bird!  It is maneuverable and a great shooting platform, though it has short legs (so I started using a drop tank).  It's not really a great LW MA survivor, as I got picked and ganged on egress a few times.  But, it seems a very capable (30 ENY?) bird.

The troubling characterisic I seemed to notice (or "feel"?) was as a tendency to "bottom out" in loops, barrel-rolls, rolling-scissors, etc., where I seemed to drop further than I expected despite trying to power through the maneuver at the bottom (full-throttle WEP, nose up) but kept descending -- once into a tree and once a building (ouch).

I think this may just be an issue of E-management through those maneuvers, but it just didn't "feel right" to me.  So, I'm looking for some stick-time to get a better feel for it while getting practice and tips maneuvering with other AC.

I did force some overshoots and managed to kill a few LW monster birds - 190, Jug-N, Tempest, Pony, Frank, etc.  When I made 3 turns with a Zeke and got inside for the kill, I promptly fell in love with the 109F and decided to gain further expertise in it!

Anyone available to help 109F practice/training?

Sounds like you discovered the accelerated stall. You were trying for more lift than your speed allowed. That would have been a good time for flaps. I don't generally focus on teaching a particular aircraft. My theory is that you learn to fly and you can fly them all.

I'd be happy to help you learn to fly in the 109F but your time is a little late for me. I generally train Saturdays 9-11 AM CT.

  Hey Kingpin,

  First welcome back! and second I'm usually in the TA around 9pm est so thats pretty close to the times you've mentioned. I never train on fridays,it's FSO night so I'm busy warming up and tonight isnt good for me as I have RL to attend to but if you can wait till next week I'd be glad to go over a few things with you on the 109F.

  I fly it often as it's a fav of mine and have several 100 hours of stick time in it alone.

  I'd suggest you hook up with FLS if at all possible,he's a quite capable pilot and a good trainer. I think it's a good idea to get several trainers prospectives as we all have our own little things and ways of doing them.



  Shoot me a pm and we'll hook up next week,monday I'm busy but I'm open the rest of the week so far!

I have noticed Latrobe flying the 109F as of late and does well in it, not wanting to speak for him but do  isee him up in the evenings, I am sure he would not mind a wingy, he is usually attacking 4,5 or 6 others in his 109F at deck level, holding his own for a bit.

Dolby is a great 109F pilot along with Latrobe, I would suggest contacting both and asking for some films.

I fought both and they absolutely are some of the best sticks/friends in the game.

I'm not a very good teacher. I'm still a novice with this aircraft as well. Pervert took me to the DA a while back for some F4vF4 and I learned quite a bit. The rest I learned from just dieing repeatedly and slowly figuring things out. I'll look through my films and see if I have any F4 sorties saved. If not I'll start recording some.

I'll try to look up FLS and/or Morf in the TA when I can.  (FLS, thanks for the accelerated stall tip: I'll try another notch of flaps at the bottom in those cases and see if that helps!)

Latrobe, I'm looking forward to watching your films.  Thanks for posting them.

I'd be happy to wing up in the MA for some 09F runs or go in the DA for some practice (with whomever) any time.

Might not be a 109F pilot but I'm always willing to help/train/practice with someone an pretty much anything besides a LA or spixteen.

If you can't train with Latrobe, I'd see if he'd be willing to take you along for the ride on some of his sorties.  Get a first hand view of what's going on, as he is very, very good, like a step above others that I've personally fought in the F model.

It's at the point where I know it's most likely him after the first couple of moves, just from the skill involved.

I can't comment on Dolby, but I've heard he's very good too.

I finally tried it out after reading about it and enjoyed a good amount of success with it. The only thing that would catch me off guard at critical times was its knack of compressing when over 450 mph. I've also found that has a lot more blind spots than I'm used to, especially on the low 6 o'clock.

What I like about it is that its a light little bugger. It handles much better at dogfighting and doesn't bleed E like the heavier 190.

 When diving in a 109 when you hit 450+ mph try turning off wep and hit the minus key on your key pad three times. That feathers the prop and helps to pull out of the hard dive. Hitting the K key will to but that screws up you trim while the minus key don't. Give it a try you will be surprises I was I wish I remember who showed me that. I found I can do 540 mph in a 109 and pull out. All except the E-4. My favorite 109s are the F-4 and G-2.

I personally do not recommend using the prop pitch as a way of pulling out of a dive. Throttle back and K key are my method (and mapping combat trim to a joystick button).

 I think my joystick was made in 1914 the previous owner may have been Kaiser Von Wilhelm lol. I don't have keys to maps.
