8th Air Force Mission Players
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:16:50 AM »
I wish that more Aces High players start participating in the high altitude and deep penetration missions.

I wish that they would register at http://stevesscifishootout.forumsland.com and get into the action both on Thursday Nights and in the forum taking part of the in the planning and operations of the virtual 8th Air Force.

I wish that the 8th Air Force be able to field 40+ buff sets and 60+ escort fighters.

I wish that a Luftwaffe player step up and form a Luftwaffe Team to work on coordinated attacks against the 8th Air Force.

I'm using these missions as a warmup for DGSII.

Please don't be offended if I don't get heavily involved.

It's rare that I can plan things during the summer.

Thank you for putting these raids on.

You probably would have to triple the number of AH players first ;)

That sounds like way too many escorts for 40 sets of bombers.  At high altitude, most bombers can easily handle a single fighter without help (unless the fighter takes his time - which doesn't sound likely with all those high escort fighters).  With those numbers, the interceptors would probably need 100 fighters (or good 262 pilots) to even make a dent in the bomber stream.  This is all based on my uninformed opinion of course, but a ratio of (1) fighter for every (2) bomber formations seems more reasonable.

Not entirely true, depending on what fighter, one can easily knock down 3 bombers - you need 2 fighters per buff formation - and this isn't even going historical.

Not trying to be argumentative, but where is the info on escort/bomber numbers?  We sent huge bomber raids into Germany (sometimes more than a 1,000).  I doubt we had thousands of escort fighters covering them.

Historical aspect aside, most AH players can't kill all three bombers without an escort.  Maybe if the bombers didn't fly 290mph at 30k, things would be different.

When we make the HQ runs with 40 buff sets and loads of escorts, the call will be made for the 262's and 163's.

Re fighter to bomber numbers.

There is no flak. A ratio of 1 to 1 is actually 1 to 3. If the axis pays attention they have phenomenal intercept intel. Axiis has multi lives and can get a k4 to alt on the way in and out. Lot of players find hitting a formation challenging, (cant hit except on six,) Lot of players find it hard to hit fighters attacking their formations except on their six. Lastly, not to get too social engineery, it the losses for the bombers are 90 to 100 percent participation will prolly dry up. Mix that all in there.
Pies not kicks.

While this is true, but a K4 can climb out to 25k in almost no time, since the buff formation is pretty much over enemy territory all the time, escorts simply don't have enough numbers to keep up with the die/auto climb enemy.

If it was real numbers, sure but you forget a pair of k4s can get shot down and be back in the action in 5 minutes or less.

With the Capital's at their starting spots on maps like Trinity and Compello (and the other 2 who's name I've forgotten), I wish for the 8th to hit these instead. :D

Down the road it will happen.

I wish your guys would rethink that country switching thing for one night a week.  I have a B-24 Wing Commander to take care of 3 B-24 Groups with 12 players apiece for open recruitment.  I have 2 B-17 Groups open and I can vacate the B-17 Wing Commander slot if you guys join up and fill them open slots.

Do you want to fly 8th Air Force or Luftwaffe?
