This is the Final race of Season 27, and is on of the few races that is by invitation only. If you have flown during Season 27, I urge you to show up. One never knows who will not show up, and you might get to fly.
In the Solomon Islands... Friday, August 7, 1942, First landings on Guadalcanal. From a US naval based task force of three carriers and support ships under the command of Admiral Fletcher, an amphibious force under Admiral Turner and 1st Marine Division, General Vandergrift, land on Guadalcanal. Only the second race of a new season, this race is going to be hosted by a new to the AHXARL CM. That is, he is new as a CM to us, but he has been hosting SASSAFRAS in the Heavy Metal Sunday event for awhile, and has been an avid racer for a long time. We all look forward to this event.
In the Solomon Islands... Friday, August 21, 1942, On Guadalcanal, Japanese Colonel Ichiki's force of 1000 men attack the American positions across the Tenaru River. The American strength and defenses are unexpected and the Japanese force is destroyed. The Marines continue to receive shipments of supplies and some reinforcements. In Occupied Germany... Tuesday, 28 August, 1945, Goring, Ribbentrop, and 22 others former Nazi government officials are indicted as war criminals. Hermann Goring heads the list of 24. Rudolf Hess, formerly deputy to Hitler, who has been a prisoner in Britain since May 1941, is next on the list, followed by Martin Bormann, the secretary of the NSDAP, who disappeared from the Berlin bunker. Others include Konstantin von Neurath, the first foreign minister to Hitler; Gustav Krupp von Bohlen, the industrialist; Franz von Papen, the vice-chancellor in 1933-34; and, Hjalmar Schacht, who served as the minister of finance in the Nazi government until falling out of favor with Hitler.
