Ink, staffies and pitbulls are not the same, ask breeders, they will tell u the same thing, they get very offended if u suggest such a thing. Pits are mixtures of breeds of dogs, staffies that they use for show dogs that they register with akc and have papers are different, staffies are shorter and, ore broader shoulder, more muscular, my pitbulls are taller, not as muscular and dont have the huge wide head like staffies have. I understand what u are trying to say though, my boys actually have some mastiff mixed in with them. Many dogs that "look pit" arent pit at all if u do dna tests on them, u would be surprised to what u would find out what they were.

(I have been saying they are different silly)

When you say "staffy"  it is wrong because it refers to 3 different breeds of dogs....

1-which you have are "American Staffordshire terriers" (Which were breed from American Pittbull terriers)
2-are the "Staffordshire terriers"
3- are the "Staffordshire Bull Terriers"

all three distinct breeds.

American Pittbull Terriers are a real breed of dog.....they are not a mix of many breeds....they are their own breed of dog...

and yes Mastiff was brought into the line to produce American Staffordshire terriers(along with many other breeds)

thats why the real APBT is NOT the same breed of dog as AM-Staff's (American Staffordshire terriers)

I know dogs that are registered as both AM-Staff and APBT....but they are NOT American Pittbull terriers, they are Am-Staffs.

the pics I showed of real American Pittbull terriers are just that.  American Pittbull terriers.

and those are not the dogs that are attacking people......hate to say it but it is Am-staffs and cross breed Am-staffs.....

I love all bully breeds, and it truly is the owner that makes the dog....

The name "Pittbull" refers to one dog...The American Pittbull terrier......but it is ignorantly handed out to almost all bully breeds.....

once again I refer to the pics I posted......look at those real "Pittbulls/APBT"  they are almost extinct now a days....they were NEVER  breed to be guard dogs of any sort....they made the worst guard dogs, for one reason only....they loved people....

Am-staffs have lost that love and the game to fight....because of them bringing in other dog breeds into the line....they have also gained the other dog traits of being miss-trustfulness of strangers....and of course every gangster(for it is them I blame for what has happened to the Pittbulls) wanted a badasss dog and the best was the American Pittbull terrier....

Obviously even the "owners" of such dogs disagree or are confused on the breed.

those dogs are not American Pittbull terriers....
 which one is the APBT?

(Image removed from quote.)

I did okay with your test, but I wasn't confident.  10,16 and 20 are terriers.

edit:

I wouldn't of guessed 16 was a APBT.

Bull terrier, a completely different breed....although they share some common ancestor's....specifically the old English Bulldog(some believe the American Bulldog is the original Old English Bulldog)

and that pic of all the dogs.....99.99% of people would not have guessed it right....

although Morh probably would have......

Is it the English Bulldog that can't breed the old fashion way?  Articulately inseminated, then the squeakes have to have a c section?

yup the short fat ugly sukers....although I met and helped take care of one that was awesome.....lots of issues with them.

you can breed them but they need a C-section to give birth...(most are artificially inseminated) one of the reasons they are so expensive.

they are also far from what the English Bulldog used to be.....I am inclined to believe that the American Bulldog is the original Old English Bulldog.....but not positive 100%

Ink,you're correct in the reasons for the bulldog being expensive, all are born by C section as their head and shoulders are to large for the squeak to welp. This is also happening to alot of the bull breeds because man decided that looks trump function and breed to a "type".

The APBT is actually a dog developed from the original pitdogs from England, today the closest we have to that breed is the Stafordshire Bull terrier. It's not really fair to say any of the bull breeds are different from another as they all share common traits and even bloodlines. Bullterriers were developed from the early Staffies,American pitbulls come from the same foundation breeds also.

The American Bulldog is a recreation breed that was developed in the early 50's and 60's and really has little to do with the English Bulldog except that it looks more like an old school bulldog moreso than it's modern conterpart the English Bulldog.

The Olde English bulldog and the alpha blues are attempts to recreate the old bulldogs from the past but again they are bred to a "type" and not really bred for function like they did in the past.

Most would be surprised to see what went on at the old Westminister Pit,dogs of all sizes, colors and coats fought, you wouldnt even consider some of these dogs as pitbulls because they had long curly coats and weighed maybe 10lbs.  What they looked for was "gameness" the term "deadgame" was highly sought after because that was a dog that wouldnt "turn" from the fight to the point of dropping dead.

I deplore dogfighting but I respect the history, much like WW1 or WW2,gruesome things happened and I cant change that but I can respect the history. Anyone owning this kind of dog must learn the history to understand the dog!

BTW,the common name for my breed is the "nanny dog" because they were used as baby sitters and are 1 of only 2 breeds that mentions in the standard that they have a love for children.

we have talked about it before :D

there are different views and nether of us can say 100% where the American Bulldog came from....for we were not around to see it happen....and there is not a whole lot of info on them.

some absolutely believe the AM-Bulldog is the original bulldog....... that all of them came from.....

one thing I know...... is I love the APBT all bully breeds in general.....except this new thing they have created mixing in the bulldogs.......man o man I hate what the have done to my pitts  :furious

You can clearly hear the owner give the command: "Ready, Set, Go", before the dogs come out.

I know lots about my dogs and others, i have done research on the background of the bully breeds, what makes me mad is people assume that anything with a boxy head and is brindle or muscular is a pitbull when in fact there are many other breeds of dogs loke the cane corsos, argentinos, presa de carnarios that look similar to a pit but are HUGE and are much larger than them. We faught to save a dog in belfast that was taken from its owners cuz he looked like a pitbull, when doing a routine check the said he fit the description and so they took him, his name was lennox. They did a dna test on him, he was lab and bulldog mix, they still sentenced him to die, even though he never hurt anyone he still died cuz of his looks. Ignorance is out there. It spreads like wild fire, the media does help. Pitbulls get bad reps from dirtbags that fight them and bad owners. The only thing my boys are guilty of is not being able to hold their licker. I fight for the bully breeds every day, i help save them from dying in my local shelter by getting rescues and fosters to take them, its a never ending job and im just a volunteer. I can not them all and it kills me when i fail them. No one else will help them where i live because they dont have the connections i have, i work with rescues and network for like detroit bully cre, lstday dog rsue, detroit animal welfare group, detroit dog rescue, and many more. I have bully crew rescues all over the U.S. that will sometimes come take them and i have transporters i work with and everything is done on donations. Those of you that have me on your facebook see the things i share and post. Shuffy, im far from confused about my boys or the breeds of the staffies. I have had many conversations with morfiend about these dogs in the past when i first got stuka, i wanted to learn as much as i could about training him correctly and learn about my dog, now he and my other pitbull tank are on their 2nd week of their canine good citizen training. Once certified, they are moving onto therapy dog training to become certified therapy dogs. I will change minds of people in my area about pitbulls and how they see them, having a good encounter with a well behaved pitbull will stick in their minds. Even if it is one person at a time, its better than none. Education is key.

VonMessa I just watched that video and all I can say is WOW!!!

As to the subject, I am sorry for the loss of the dog, any dog can be made to be a fierce fighting machine. PitBulls or Staffy's can be the most docile and gentle dogs around. The major contribution is and always will be, the owner. If an owner treats a dog mean it will be mean, if an owner treats his/her dog with love and affection it will be the biggest dork around. I have owned German Shepard's, Bull Mastiffs and right now I am the proud owner of a AKC Boxer.

Let me emphasize this Boxers can be very tempermental, mostly mental with a large temper, but seeings how LadyBug was raised to be a gentle dog, she is gentle. I am able to go directly into her mouth and grab treats out of her mouth. The lady that helps me out with my dad, when she comes over, at times she brings her 2 year old grandson. He is able to yank on her fur, tear at her ears and jump on her like she is a wrestling partner. The most I have seen her do is just look at him and walk away, only to be chased down and mauled again.

So all in all it isnt the dog its the owner. Just my .02
