FSO Idea
« on: December 23, 2012, 04:38:35 PM »
Gents,

As this frame progressed, an idea came to me about bomber campaign scenarios in FSO.  I would like to float the following proposal for the next FSO bomber campaign:

One of the main considerations in the historical bomber campaigns was the available number of bombers to maintain the fight.  Start the first frame with a finite number of bombers.  As they are shot down that number is reduced.  Of course there is a small replacement rate however that should not be very large.  As the number of bomber decline the players should be migrated into less capable airframes to retain the participation level.  While this is taking place the target requirements do not decrease.  Another option is at the beginning of the month the bomber side is given a list of targets to hit in the month with order of completion at the bomber planner's chose.  The effect is that there is a greater push to "Bring the planes back home" so they will be available for the next frame.  Also the loss of good bombers put less drop weight over the target objectives next frame.

This should not be a one way street, similar rules should apply to the defender as well.  As the better airframes are lost the maximums should decline  to be replaced by lesser aircraft.  Example being last FSO, as NiK-2Js and Ki-82 are lost replace with Ki-61 or Zekes.  This places a similar burden on the defender as the attacker.

Well that is my 2 cents worth and a Very Merry Christmas to ALL.   :salute

I like your idea. In fact I have used attrition before in my past FSOs and I am working on a new scoring system for my FSOs. One that rewards successful landings and kills a little differently than they have in the past all while being straight forward and not too complex.

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

It has been used. It would be better than a point system. However it could really tip the scales, and ruin the fun for some.

I don't mind the attrition rate idea.  And its been used for the perked aircraft before.  The only concern I have is that if your the Frame 3 planner you can get hosed in what you can plan for and accomplish.  Also the fun factor has to be maintained throughout the frames so that if the Frame 01 planner creates a bad plan and or the enemy's counter moves distroy most of the aircraft frames 2 and 3 remain fun, payable and winable and not decided by frame 01 outcome.

Along with the bomber mission idea's.  I think we could also go back and forth on the setup for the scenario.  Allow frame 01 to be a ALLIED bomber heavy frame and the AXIS in defense.  Allow frame 2 to reverse with AXIS running the bombers and ALLIES in defense.  Frame 3 could be a meeting engagement 50/50 or a mix in a ground / JABO set up including ground vehicles after H+60.

Yes, I have thought about this. In my last FSO, I used somewhat of a reverse version of attrition. Aircraft were replenished a certain number every frame and aircraft that landed successful were held over. So it's possible to accrue "perk" rides and have a good amount going into frame 2 and 3, instead of having zero because they are depleted all in frame 1.

Very interesting idea.  :aok
