Video Card ?uestion
« on: December 29, 2012, 07:09:30 AM »
I've been buying intel cpus for a while, always with Nvidia video cads.  I'm leaning towards AMD this time and was wondering if Radeon video cards work better?  Or if Nvidia cards work with a AMD processor.

While I'm at it,
Can anyone shed light on why I can get a AMD quad core with faster clock speeds for the same price as slower 3 core intel processors?
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

It depends on the chipset. Nvidia has made it so that their cards won't do PhysX if the chipset isn't Nvidia...so make sure your mobo suppoorts SLI, not Crossfire.

Lets make it clean.

Clock speed is one thing, actual compute performance is an other. Also price/performance and performance/consumption comes into play.
The fastest AMD (fx-8350) is about in par with the i5-3570, even though it has more (yet smaller) cores and a higher frequency. It consumpts more power and costs nearly the same. AMD mobos are cheaper though.
Also, intel does not pruduce 3 core CPUs. The i3 has only 2 cores, the i5 and i7 have 4.

Currently, the AMD video cards are better price/performance-wise than the NVidia 6xx series, so i would highly recommend to choose one of those (Hd-7xxx series)

Unless you have unlimited money and resources, i would forget both about the SLI and Crossfire - a single high end card can run basically anything on 3 monitors.

In simple terms, AMD builds are cheaper because they use cheaper stuff to build them. Yes they are fast, until they don't work any more. Also, some people have trouble running the game with AMD.

You get what you pay for, you buy cheap, you get cheap. I have always run Intel/Nvidia and rarely have an issue. My son the geek built a couple AMD's because that is what his geek buddies built, and he had nothing but trouble with them. He now runs only Intel/Nvidia..... as do most of his Geek buddies.  :D

I don't have numbers, or sites, or anything else to back this up so it is purely my opinion. Good Luck

Yeah that was just an opinion not fact. Nvidias dont last any longer than AMD and yet cost more. My friends nvidia fried in 1,5 years for example and it wasnt even overclocked.

Yes we all know how much you like to argue, heck here is some more fuel, Apple sucks and I don't think I'll ever buy one of their POS.

As I said it is only my opinion, and over the many years I have built my own computers I rarely have an issue. From everything I've read AMD seems to have problems now and then. Personally I don't see why ....other than trying to save a few bucks.... anyone would take a chance with AMD.

Driver trouble is not uncommon for both AMD and nvidia but usually resolved with the next update. Driver trouble is very common for Intel Gfx though.
Both AMD/nvidia had some manufacturing troubles during the past years but with greater impact for nvidia.

Look at how the nvidia cards look versus amd sometimes there is a reason for looks.

I dont get it, nowadays discrete video cards (the reference designs) look pretty solid.

And how did the 'apple is crap' comment add anything to the discussion? He started the flaming.

I read in here that that AMD chips have a delay processing information in game :old:
