Destroy an aircraft by killing its pilot

I received the achievement by putting a burst into a P51's cockpit area by my view.  The pilot apparently did not actually die because I continued to fight him for some time.

I got that too and I think if you wounded the pilot you get that award regardless if he dies from the wound or if you finish him off.

That's what I was thinking, especially since from my perspective my fire hit in the cockpit area. but of course the pilot could land safely (well alive anyways)
