Spec Ops: The Line ...

Just finished this gem of a game.

Loosely based on the novella "Heart of Darkness" (same as Apocalypse Now is based on) it is a psychological thriller not for the faint of heart.

Not too under the radar if you follow gaming news as it has been praised left and right by most outlets.

Extra Credits even did 2 episodes to breaking the game down.

It reminded me a lot of the Max Payne series; the protagonist, and also the supporting characters, while surviving an unrealistic amount of action they act more realistic than in other shooters. To survive they do cruel and horrible things, and the story and how you affect it takes a front seat role to the action. Like in Max Payne the game also breaks the 4th wall at times, and I like that. I like that the game acknowledges the fact that I'm actually playing it. I didn't find the game particularly disturbing, but younger players, or more sensitive persons, probably will. There is a certain amount of cognitive dissonance and I found that unceasing at times (as designed I'm sure) and refreshing in a computer game. This is a game that needs a second, or perhaps even a third, play through.

Yep, good game. Only gripe is the combat. Guns felt weak and cover system wasn't as smooth as it could be. But then it's not a AAA title so I can't blame them too hard. Oh, and it's not 5 freaking hours long!

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
