Making an avi from ahf
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:58:37 AM »
How on Earth do you make an avi from the film viewer? When I click on the 'Save As Avi...' button all that happens after I've selected the options is that the film length counter goes to one second and the programme doesn't seem to do anything else. The filename I tried to save it under does not appear and that's about it.

What am I doing wrong?

I've never had that work successfully... I use the film viewer to VIEW the film, and utilize FRAPS to record it.

I know little-to-nothing about the film viewer or AH films, but...

Aces High Bulletin Board > General Forums > Films and Screenshots

Check the stickies or similar threads first.  If you can't find your answer easily, post a new thread with your question.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the film viewer has an export feature.  No fraps needed.

Thanks I'll take a look although the search feature is fubar.

Bah. Fraps is limited to 30 seconds of video on the trial version. Phooey.

You used to be able to compress and set up views right from the AH film viewer, but like 2 years ago they changed it so you had to use fraps or something,i asked them to fix it but i got smart arse replies from HTC.I think there in bed with the fraps company.

download MSI afterburner and use that to capture the video. The only problem is that it doesn't record sound.

This is not accurate.  You can still setup views in the film viewer.  Converting the AHF to AVI is only problematic as it has to do with the encoder chosen.  It could be done better.

We have no business association with Fraps.

You can still setup all the views in the film viewer.  I'll test to see what is going on with the conversion.  If it is broken, it was not intentional.

Ok folks, here we go.

The film viewer can convert AHF to AVI, but you have to use the "Microsoft Video 1" CODEC in order to do so.  I am testing all the CODECS and so far the ones that fail are the H.261 and H.263.

It does take a long time to convert the file to AVI.  Be patient.  The time slider in the film viewer will increment along as work progresses.

We also lack any 16:9 aspect ratio selections in the conversion panel.  I'll add that to the 'todo' list.

Okay so I'll test this later,so you can SEE the views you are setting up to AVI now? Maybe 2 years ago you could set the views so you could see them and save em to AVI, then something changed ( even if you could find a good codec you could not see the view's anymore) like i said i brought it up when it happend but know one there seemed to care much.
