Using the keyboard arrows and page up/page down keys, you can see around canopy bracing for the most part.  These planes have glitches where one side (despite identical bracing layout) cannot duplicate the opposite side view:



Adjusted view for the P-40F, left and up.




Adjusted view from the right side is unable to get around the brace.




P-40E view for left and up.




Same issue as the F model.  Strangely, the C and N models don't have this obstruction.




Here is the N1K up left view.

P-39D right and up.




P-39D left and up.  The P-39Q is the same deal.




All A6M models - left and up view.




All A6M models - right and up view.


With the N1K and P-39 specifically, the up views can only look out on the forward section of glass on one side and the rearward section on the other side.  That is why they look so different.  Some other planes in the lineup do this as well.




109 G6 is an older model with an issue.  Left and up view.




Here is the G6 right and up view.  The G14 also has the same issue and to a lesser extent, the K4.

I used to fix that by using two HPS files opened with notepad next to each other.

I would set all of the views except for the one that the keys would not effect. But, remember that view it's important. Then I would rename it to xxxx.hps.old so a new one with all default views was generated when I tried again to adjust the view in question. Then I would move only the view in question the tiny bit that it would allow and save it. Then I would open both hps files next to each other to identify the line or lines of number coordinates that represent the view in question.

If it was a family of aircraft I would pick the HPS file from one that allowed me to adjust that view and copy it's coordinates line for the view into the same place in the HPS file for the fighter in question. Or I would pick a fighter roughly the same and copy it's coordinates line in. At which point you test it by nameing back the one you changed to OLD.

Example: My first 18 lines from my 109g6.hps file.

Same 18 lines from a freshly generated one after I renamed 109g6.hps and restarted the game. Then raised the default head position up to look over the gunsight and saved with F10. I made no other view changes.

You can't screw these up. If you get in trouble, just delete the current aircraft.hps file and redo all of your views. I always keep backups around for each plane.

I tried this yesterday with hat views and had a problem with up/left in the P-40E. I could back off the view but not move closer.  I tried it again today and now it works normally with both the regular version and the sound test.  :headscratch:

Usually I'm using TrackIR and don't notice any problems.

There are certain key combinations that don't like to be pressed.... So if you're hitting 2 or 3 keys on your number pad then trying to move head around and THEN trying to hit F10 it causes a problem. You can get around this by removing a key from the equation. Instead of using the numpad, use joystick hat plus numpad THEN move head around, and then hit F10.

You can set all head views by combining hat+pad, rather than pure keyboard alone.

Thanks Krusty, that did the trick!  The G-6, G-14, 38G, 40E, 40F, 39D, 39Q, N1K, 410 and all three A6Ms are fixed now.  :salute

Come on Caldera, a little excercise keeps you young and flexable.

C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High\Settings\Planes\109g6.hps

(0.000000, 0.000000, 0.000000) in the file reperesents x, y, z for all the view keys provided in the keymapper.

HiTech could have simplified this by starting the line with a (Title or Number 1-24) like he does in the joystick settings jsm file for the view represented. Wonder why he didn't......maybe he didn't think anyone would want to tweek their views visa the Head PoSition file. Before I used TrackIR, I tweeked these lines so I could fix the problems you encountered with certain aircraft. You can delete the file to start over if you make mistakes. I used to have one of these files as a template where I identified all 24 key views to their corrisponding line in the file.

Right, Up, Forward are positive numbers: (0.444834,0.083166,1.115822 ) <--full distance R,U,F Default pilot View  109g6.

Default Pilot View befor any changes: (0.000000, 0.000000, 0.000000 ) <--what you see with a new game install in the 109g6.

There are 65 lines of  (0.000000,0.000000,0.000000) in each aircraft, bomber gunner, GV, LVT,  37\88 guns and PT Boat's Head Position File. We have only 25 Key views. I'm not sure what the other 40 lines describe from your pilot's head position to look at. Maybe they are a definition of 3D space for Mouse\Joystick Pan and TrackIR 2-axis modes. Or custom combinations you define in the keyboard mapper.

Heck, this is no different than taking the family car apart to see how it works when you were a teenager. Personaly I think tuning an engine is a bit more complicated.

Thought I had this thing sitting around. Here is the HPS file mapped for you. You create one of these files only when you change a view and press F10.

Um... the origin of the "default view" is not in the center of the cockpit in most cases.  In the 109's the pilot's head is low and to the left, ditto for the 190's.

if there was a "default pilot" view, which would be exactly in the same spot in the cockpit based on X height over Y spot on the seat then I bet the views from that exact point in the cockpit would be the same. As it is, the view is based on X length from the gun sight view.  

The differences between the "pilot view" and the "gun sight view" is easily demonstrated in how the "default views differ from the Mossi FB Mk 6 and the Mossi B Mk 16.  The Mossi B Mk 16 shows the view as centered over the pilot's seat, though I'm not certain if the height has a standardization to it or not.  I supposed I could compare the C47 and Mossi B Mk 16??? ***off to compare I go***

UPDATE:  The Mossi B Mk 16 has a "default pilot view" that is centered of the pilot's seat.  The C47 has a default view that is NOT centered over the pilot's seat, but is rather centered to the right side of the pilot's seat and instead is set more for a less obstructed view out the left-front window.

I've made this wish before, but nothing wrong with voicing it again: I wish there was a hot button that could switch between "default pilot view" (centered over the pilot's seat at X height above the seat), and then a "default gun sight view" for combat purposes.  Perhaps another "mode"?
