Really want to try this 3d modeling. What would you guys suggest I start at?

well I tried a bunch of 3D modeling programs, "Blender" is free and does everything the big money programs do...but the GUI is not User friendly, I have read many many people talk down about Blender because of this, but once you learn the layout, you realize it is very easy to get around in.

there are an absurd amount of tutorials also, everything you need is already out there, and you wont have to pay for them.

so I suggest Blender :aok

Alright. Thanks a bunch ink :salute

no probs....been an avid Blender user for a few years now, the only thing I am not proficient at is the game Engine itself....so I can help with anything other then that :rofl

UV mapping seems daunting at first but a few things to know and tricks will make it SOOOOOOOO much easier...but that is far off :devil

Actually, I find Blender to be much easier to use than many other programs. You want to talk about User Unfriendly? Look at GMax. I did some modeling for Neverwinter Nights 2 that required using GMax at one stage (for some reason, the Blender exporter was never able to export helmet models) and it's a clunky pain in the @#$.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

never even heard of Gmax, but then again I have been stuck on blender for as long as I have been into 3dmodeling....tried mudbox, Zbrush,3dsmax,(plus others that i forget the names)....I found Blender to be the most intuitive, and logically set up.

GMax is more or less to 3DSMax what Gimp is to Photoshop.

No, my modeling history is primarily Rhino to AC3D to Blender, with a little bit of Milkshape and GMax for special situations (the latter two mainly importing stuff I already modeled in other apps) with Photopaint and Gimp for texture work.

Milkshape I used, but always go back to Blender :D

Nice to see some fellow Blenderheads out there.  And great work by all who have posted.  I have some models I could post but I would need a quick lesson on how to post pictures.  Anyone give me a hand with that?  Also my models are not textured.  Just starting to get my head wrapped around the whole UV unwrapping thing.  Then working on the images in Gimp and the textures in Blender.  (sometimes makes my head spin)

I've noticed there's one nut that seems to fly a 39 and actually get kills in it. I'm not sure what's wrong with them...

OK... going to give this a shot.  Here is a model of one aircraft I have been working on in Blender.  I used the cycles render to get the photos and I have a lot of fireflies (white spots) in the photos.  Also getting a lot of black dots like I sprinkled the model with a light coat of pepper.  Ink or anyone else if you have any ideas on how to get rid of the spots for a better render in cycles I would much appreciate it.

Regards,

BSB

Use a different file format. Try PNG instead.
